Marinol isn't really an "invention," it's just synthetic delta9-THC and lacking other essential cannabinoids like CBD and CBN which aid in more medicinal aspects like appetite and nausea. Marinol is not addictive, which is exactly why the FDA approved the use of it because of its absence of any immunopathology due to delta9-THC. IF Marinol was addictive, it would be a contradiction then to say that cannabis is not, since the active ingredient, as you know, is delta9-THC.

Actually -- Marinol ...dendrabinol...is a synthetic form of d-THC and is not formed from the plant at all. This information can be found researching the synthesis of the chemical.

It is addictive in as much as withdrawl of the medication from a regular user of it can and does cause serious stomache complications when administration is suddenly ceased. Besides cramps ocver stimulation of gastric enzymes and acids, it causes rebound anerorexia and appetite suppression

This information has not yet been added to the patient package insert however is known anecdotally by patients and their doctors as well as many pharmacists familiar with prescribing this medication -- which by the way costs upwards of $2000 for a months supply.

Just sort of FYI...

i think that people may get addicted just because of their experiences with marijuana. they may feel like life sucks unless your high, but in most cases I think people can control it. And there is nothing wrong with smoking... well thats just my opinion.

i did smoke it alot for 3 yrs so i guess it was sort of addicted. not so bad as to "i need it, i need it" but i guess moe of a habit or routine.

i believe its just willpower to not be addicted, use it moderatly. that way u dont build a tolerance and u dont abuse it...so it doesnt abuse u

I dunno, I know of quite a few people who have said "I gotta quit" or express a sort of guilt complex stemming from smoking.

I think it is because they smoke excessively, but not all of these people are what you'd call 'prone to addiction'. Most of these people drink, watch TV, eat fast food, etc., but are able to do it in moderation... for some reason they like smoking too much to know how much is enough.

I believe it's because it is more socially accepted to wake and back or smoke in the day than it is to, say drink first thing in the morning.

I mean how many of us have smoked in the morning, even saying it's really fun because it offers a whole new perspective on things? I personally love smoking on the occasional morning, but if I was to say I liked getting drunk in the morning I'd be an alcoholic.

Two different things, but wanting to change your mind-state first thing in the morning is the same underlying idea... I was one of those people who 'weren't awake' until they had their coffee in the morning last summer during work, and I didn't like that at all, I felt a little bit like a tool

This sort of begs the question... What is moderation?

What is drinking in moderation -- a drink once a week or once a day or only two in the evening?

Eating fast food -- stopping at McD's only once a day or only once a month?

And Television -- a true opiate of the masses -- how many hours of the tube is "moderate"?

--- Personally I smoke a joint or two a day, I eat fast food once a month, I drink a beer during my period (the brewers yeast is an excellent source of needed B vitamins) and have a glass of wine twice a month, and I don't watch TV...

Hmmm...perhaps this should be in a new thread in the Break room?

Hugz,

Actually I don't think you can get addicted to mj...as far as knowing because of how often you do it doesn't dictate that you are addicted...being addicted is someone who can't stop...right....right!
