Lightbulb Legalize It

As a person who suffers from Fibromyalgia (a chronic pain condition), I can say that the medicinal value of marijuana is of great importance to me. I have a lot of trouble sleeping and suffer from severe pain. As most people have done in their youth I smoked marijuana for pleasure. Only recently have I discovered its medicinal value. I feel that it is safer than most of the prescription medication I have been prescribed, which are highly addictive and have numerous side effects. I don't see how something legally considered a narcotic, that I have to sign for when I pick up my prescription, would be any different if not WORSE than marijuana.
What are they really afraid of? As with most issues here in the US, it wouldn't be a problem anymore if it was legal. Most people I know who smoke bud, don't abuse any other form of drug and it doesn't cause problems in their day to day life. They are very laid back and mild mannered people. Obviously that is for a reason.......I say smoke up!! and the world would be a better place...

Default Argh

I am only 24, so all I know from MJ in terms of legality is that it is illegal and that it will most likely stay that way for a long time since so many people are dead set in their ways and want to keep things the same; it still irks me to think that people see MJ the same way they do in the depiction of it in the movie Reefer Madness.........how people who smoke get dellusional, kill and rape people and such; ugh, it drives me nuts.

I dissagree, the VAST majority of people I talk to believe that MJ should be legal. I think there may be a problem at the government level, which means there is a problem at the social level. Why is the will of the people not represented in the laws of the country? Because enough people are not active politcaly.

And by "active" I dont mean go out everyday and protest, I mean at least know what is going on. But there is a growing mainstream idea that pot is harmless, and hopefully that will make people start to wonder "why is it illegal?"

And I beg of everyone, do not ever think that things cannot change... that people are "dead" set in their ways. Because by stating such and idea, you yourself become "dead" set. And we cannot thrive without change.

The simple fact, once again, is that prohibition is a direct violation of our freedom. If we dont fight it every step of the way, the powers that be will keep moving forward with new violations on our rights.

So rock the vote everyone. *wink*

It makes me crazy. I know there are a lot of people that don't believe it will ever happen or that it will be several years down the road. I believe that if people were educated about the whole marijuana prohibition scandal, that they would want it ended also. That is a mighty tall mountain to climb. You remember the ABC John Stossel report on drug prohibition? ABC got a huge amount of letters calling them liars, in so many words. Even when confronted with factual information, prohibitionist lies win out.

Money is the only truth known by the powers that be. Many of us are poor and our numbers are few. If it was to hurt them for marijuana to be illegal, it would change in an instant. The prison system, cia, dea and about a third of the local police forces rely on prohibition. That is a power to be reckoned with by itself, none of those people want to lose their jobs.

I know, cut it short. Yes, it matters to me that marijuana is illegal and, yes, it matters to me that there is so much apathy about making it legal.

Default Voting for people who lock up smokers

The choice we all have is to either vote for someone who wants to continue the drug war...or don't vote at all. Not cool, but I would rather cast my vote with whoever the lesser of the two available evils is in any given election rather than vote for some fringe candidate with no chance of winning, or not vote at all.

Ok, not to insult or anything, but ideas like "choosing the lesser of two evils", and "my vote is wasted" ruin the idea of democracy.

People must understand, our choices are not only democratic or republican. If prohibition bothers you, for god sake vote Libertarian. When you cast a vote, it does not guarantee victory for that candidate, but mearly expresses your opinion(which is how our republic is supposed to work).

Default Legalize it, yes

We, in the community of those who smoke, are generally thoughtful caring people. Sometimes so caring that we want to understand and comfort those who would punish us for what we do. It is and has always been the distinction of a society which welcomes or invites an invading force in hopes of befriending those who would destroy them in the end. Look back in time at all the benevelent peoples of the world whose nations are now extinct. We do face the same end. Our only option is to become another destructive society and take over another in a cycle of hate, not an option at all. Enjoy the time we have and let the world remember our sensitivity, our caring, and understand what was lost.

The fact that its illigal is the only problem for me, ive smoked marijuana for over three years. Ive been busted once, and just the thought of getting busted makes my spine clench. Marijuana isnt wrong, only our conservative uneducated ideas about lieing to the public, throwing honest people in jail and most of all the violation of our rights.

Prohibition is the only problem assosiated with that green stuff, and its the problem we let the people in charge create.

Dont Criticize, Legalize

You resurrected a nearly three year old thread to say WHAT??!!???

You want to lace what to who for how many Green Stamps???

Post again when you can type a complete word, let alone a thought.

(rick, I can only assume that you are "The guy on top")
