| I was chatting with a friend the other evening and we got to thte topic of Marijuana legalization. My argument was that people dont seem to really understand the prohibition problem, however he countered with the opinion that most people simply dont care if it was legal or not and many more arent going to go out of their way to do anything about it. I couldnt really argue much more after that - what do you think?

| Myself personally, it really makes me mad that marijuana is illegal. The thing is though, is that most of the people that I hang out with, while they would like it to be legal they could really careless about it. I think this is one of the biggest problems that our movement faces. Even the people who use marijuana seem to not care as much as they should that it is illegal, I mean if the people who smoke don't even care than it's unlikely that our politicians will ever care either. For some reason people just think that it’s too much to ask for marijuana to be made legal. I'm not sure if I'm the only person who has observed this, but it really makes me mad how people care so little about something that affects them so much.

| It bothers me because more and more jobs are doing drug tests and this means the smokers will have to chose jobs or weed. I wish people would see the light and then the bul**** would end. and the weed freed |

| What bothers me the most about the illegality of marijuana is the fact that marijuana has been proven countless times to be useful as medicine, yet the feds don't want to reclassify it. Bush and John Walters have both made statements that they would do "whatever is necessary" to prevent any illicit drugs from being legalized for whatever reason (see www.whitehouse.gov ). They try to shout down and shut up the medical marijuana activists, railroad med pot growers in court, and prosecute and jail doctors and patients. Reseach into marijuana as a possible prescription medicine has been blocked by lengthy waits for petitions (some see them as deliberate) and the fact that the government fails to reschedule it. What also disturbs me is that much more harmful drugs (like alcohol and tobacco) are legal and even funded by our moronic government, yet marijuana is illegal and prohibited. Our government is endorsing and supporting thousands of American deaths every year to these two legal drugs, yet studies have shown the marijuana is far less harmful, even beneficial in some ways. Why does this fact alone not shock and anger average Americans? Yep...our government's War on Marijuana wastes billions of taxpayers' dollars, deliberately imprisons critically ill patients, strips American citizens of their freedoms, stuffs our prisons to overflowing, supports the sickness and death of Americans through alcohol and tobacco, lies to our children and encourages ratting out family, friends and neighbors over a plant. How can this not be disturbing?

| It *is* disturbing, yes, but I think most smokers, even though they feel it should be legalized, think it won't happen within their lifetime and think any activist efforts on their part would be a wasted.

| Yes it bugs me alot that marijuana is illegal. Of course, most people who dont smoke it arent going to want to do anything to make it legal. Why should they either, not their problem, so they arent going to spend their time and/or money to make it happen.

| What bothers me the most is the fact that the mainline america has demonized it. For people to support legalization would be, in most cases, admittance of use, which could ruin your reputation, cause you to lose your job (if any...) and other such repercussions with having a reputation for drug use. That is another hindrance to the movement - Shame.

| Politicaly Marijuana users hinder themselvers. Often marijuana user to wrapped up in a broad liberal agenda. By pushing such a broad agenda people portray themselves as zelots and are ignored by more moderate people. Talk of socialized medicine, Bush hating, anti-corporate talk alienates people from marijuana legaliztion......because people who support marijuana legalization also vocaly support such a broad agenda it convinces others that marijuana legaliztion is a item only for liberals and libertarians. |

| One of the biggest problems is that people who use marijuana will actually vote for people that think they belong in jail for using it. One moment they talk about how wrong it is for marijuana to be illegal, the next moment they are voting for people who endorse the perpetuation of the drug war. Crazyworld. Peace, HN-
