Taxes are an infringement to Americans and shouldn't exist in the first place. You're absolutely right, we shouldn't have to pay for other peoples choices. But many people will also say, in the same breathe, that I should have to pay for some persons welfare check or SS check. When it comes down to it, taxes are legalized theft which is labeled by the government as "redistribution of wealth". In reality, money is taken out of my paycheck and given to other people and I have no say about it. If I stole money out of your wallet and gave it to some homeless guy, would I be any less a thief? This might seem off topic, but it certainly pertains to the overall picture. If someone smokes cigarettes and gets cancer, they should have to pay for the medical costs. Not the group sum of all smokers, but that smoker him/her self. If someone wants to shoot heroin, snort cocaine, smoke weed, inject meth ect. ect.. then they are responsible for what happens to them. Only them and their insurance company of choice, should bear the cost. All drugs should be legal. Every single one of them. In a truely free America, one would be responsible for ones own life and could do whatever they wanted as long as they didn't infringe upon the individual rights of others.

But I think since the 60s MJ has just become more and more socially acceptable in US society. It seems like kids to day either smoke it, or if they dont they really dont have a problem with its use. Its starting to pop up on more and more ballots...i think it will happen, hopefully I will be alive to see it!

I believe marijuana will be legalized before I pass, unfortunately, I do not think that full legalization will come soon enough.

Legalization will come eventually, the benefits that I see are: 1. More tax dollars, you know the gov is gonna tax the hell out of it. 2. They would have more control over it. As it is now, they really don't, ....pretty much all they know is lots of people smoke it and Uncle Sam's ....not getting his cut. 3. Cut down on harder drugs. Marijuana... The Gateway Drug.... why? ....because it's illegal. You have to get it from a drug dealer. What's a ....drug dealer? A salesperson. What's a salesperson try to do? Get you ....to buy the TV, the unnecessary cables, an extra remote, spare ....batteries and a 25 year warranty. So you get it from a dealer who ....most likely supplies more than just herb and would love to pencil ....you in for more profits. I think it should be legalized the same way alcohol is... Taxed, 21+, and be responsible. I think it'd also cut down on accidents, you can still get a DUI for being high, but most likely it's because you're driving 8MPH on the main strip and you've had on your blinker for 10 blocks. I doubt it will be soon (like the next 10 years) but as a younger generation starts to take control of the country, they'll slip it in there somewhere. Previous generations haven't really had the exposure that we have (I'm 22). They were basically raised being told that it's a nasty, filthy deed done only by drug dealers, bums and hookers. But if you ask anybody under 25, I guarantee 80% have smoked it and less than 5% of them will complain. [edit] (this site is great, I've been just clicking links for days now, never running out of interesting stuff and I can't keep up. Good job, marijuana.com) Anyways, I was just reading that Green State Project website and noticed a link to some far-right, republican jibberish... dailykos.com/story/2006/12/2/9483/45006 "POT -- is a bane on this community." blow me. - "But to sit around in your pajamas composing 1,000-word essays on the wondrous benefit of avoiding reality, as human beings were meant to experience it, is pathetic." Is how he introduces his 1,000 word essay on how horrible pot is, and how anyone who smokes it is a deadbeat junky with no life, unless they have glaucoma or Alzheimer's, in which case he feels your pain. What a douche. Hey, douche, guess what? I work full time. That's right. 40 hours a week, 10 hours a day, followed by 4-5 hours of school. Daily. Not to mention owning my car, having a nice home with nice things... Plus, I'm getting paid right now to write this 1000 word essay, in response to you.. A volunteer. Not even a volunteer. A GODDAMN BLOGGER! Get a job, lowlife. - "Pot is just like any other of the above-named drugs{crack, smack, coke, booze}: it removes you from experiencing consciousness as nature, or God, or your mom and dad, meant you to experience it. Yes, life can be boring or have ups and downs. But going through these is how we grow and develop as people. To avoid fully feeling this reality stunts our progress – just ask any pot-promoting dKosser who is doubtlessly spending this Saturday morning gobbling Cheerios in front of the cartoons on the boob tube, dreaming up their next screed about how pot makes you more creative or productive." Oh you're so right. The big bright lights outside and all the people are so scary. I just sit inside 24/7 because it's the only place I can go since I started smoking. I even buy my groceries online and disconnected my phone because my damn Mom keeps calling. Hey, dick... What the hell do you care what I do with my Saturday? Because the way I see it, the only time of mine that should matter to anyone outside of friends and family is the time I spend WORKING AND PAYING TAXES. Unlike numerous members of the blogging community, who choose to spend their days confined to their computer thinking of creative little stories to make me look like a crack addict. - ... Pretty much this whole story is bullsh*t to me. He writes about being in the Legalize IT camp, and how great weed is for people with prescriptions.. But how any average smoker is nothing but a lazy, hungry dumbass who watches too much TV. If you want weed taken out because people who smoke it don't go outside and socialize while they're smoking (gee, I wonder why that could be), then you better hop on that bus to get video games outlawed too, because they're just as much a problem with that. And while you're at it, hell, hop on the Bill O'Reilly bandwagon and lace up your gloves to take on the Internet, because you know MySpace and other sites like that do the same thing. And TV, and what the hell, family dinners should be outlawed too.. When's the last time you seen a family at the mall socializing during family dinner? Exactly, the stuff should be illegal. Sorry, this guy just sounds like a tard to me. One of those people that wants to blame everything on weed and stoners. So it's not as healthy as a head of lettuce. Big deal, neither are little debbie snack cakes, coffee, cigarettes, beer, soft drinks, ice cream, and fast food. Marijuana was made illegal years ago, and was done so by scaring the population into thinking that we (stoners) are nothing but mindless zombies that could rape your daughter at any minute, steal her purse and burn your house down without remorse. It's about time the government dropped the bullsh*t and got with the program, they're more stubborn than a redhead. Hell, weed is the #1 cash crop in America.. I'm stumped as to why it's not legal already.

Recently marijuana legalization and medical marijuana initiatives have been seen more and more on the ballots. I think there will come a time when the people of the United States will begin to express their outrage of the the Federal governemts relentless enforcement of it's laws against marijuana. Then, I think, will this country see a change of laws for the better.

| I wrote to High Times the other day pointing out that this year, 2007 will be 70 years since the passing of the 1937 Marihuana Tax Act making Cannabis illegal. Also this year is the 30 year anniversary of the Summer of Love. 70 years passed and we still have people misguided about the truth. Yet for some, the Summer of Love still wafting in the back of minds tells the truth and the story. The cloud of smoke is clearing and soon we will all be free. I absolutely believe that Cannabis will be legalized within my lifetime.
