| Now that the elections over and the political landscape is changing I'd like to know how you feel about the reality of Marijuana legalization in your lifetime. Im not really sure where I stand on this issue at the moment. Prior to this year, I would have said that, "Yes, I believe Marijuana will be legalized in my lifetime". But, now I tend to think differently. Im not sure exactly what the catalyst was, but something in the last year changed my view. What do you guys think? Am I just over-reacting to some political letdowns or do I see "The writing on the wall"? ![]()

| My lifetime is a pretty long time. I would hope to surpass 2050 and 2060, so I think it's very possible.

| As disapointed as Rick seemed to be by the results of the presidential election, I conclude he is either over reacting or has given up. Personally, I am rather satisfied with the results on the local level. Patience! At worse dubya will be in office for four more years. Besides, while it is doubtful we will see outright legalization from this administration, the departure of a few cabinet members offers some hope of reform of some kind. It seems only a matter of time before marijuana is legalized at the state level. Finally, there is also reason for optimism on the issue of medical marijuana. IMHO marijuana will be legalized before the Cubs win the World Series. Sorry about that Chicago. Ya still got the Sox though... ![]() |

| Ya, look at all the stuff that's going on, it's a last attemp at a losing battle to try and keep prohibition. There is overwhelming support for Marijuana in Canada, and the US (government) is, well, far behind, but not too far. Havn't most the states with high ( ) population legalized Medicinal Marijuana? And New York decriminalized it?

| I live in one of those states - Az. and there is still a great deal of work to be done here. I guess Im just impatient, I dont understand what all the fuss is about. Seems like this is a no brainer and there are so many passionate people and so much money against our efforts. I have so much respect for the foot soldiers in the War on Marijuana. The folks that actually do something, the unsung heros in my opinion. Frustrated, yes. Giving up - hahahaha! ![]() ![]() |

| The Majority of the population of the U.S. does not support Marijuana legalization. A reasonably sized minority openly supports it, most people don't care and a reasonably sized minority directly opposes it. Marijuana will not be legalized until most Americans want it. That won't happen until the legalization movement separates itself from the broad spectrum of the 'liberal' agenda. This issue does not have to be associated with anti-war opinions, counter-culture ranting, national health care, gay rights or anti-Americanism. The persistent need to push this broad agenda alienates the moderate and apathetic portions of the population. The same people needed to build a consensus and bring the issue into the forefront of the national debate. One of the key steps in pushing the issue forward is to reorient it away from radical politics, bring some discipline to the discussion and reframe it under in a moderate and centrists platform. The linkage to other hot button topics, such as the war in Iraq, Gay marriage or gun control only separate legalization from a large percentage of the population. All successful political or social movement requires compromise, ask your self what are you willing to abandon in order to see Marijuana legalized? What does the opposition have to sacrifice in order to maintain prohibition? Seeing Marijuana legalize will require a compromise, and for many that will be the select abandonment of other highly debatable partisan opinions, or at very least s ome disciple to separate the arguments. |

| I think what HappyMan is trying to say is, that it's unlikely under current circumstances.

I think we will see one state legalize marijuana through a state ballot within the next 8 years (I predicted at least a couple states legalizing by 2012 in 2002). Alaska already has 4 ounces of personal possession legal through privacy provisions in their constitution. Whether that will hold up is up for grabs, but my point is the barriers are starting to weaken. Our 40% minority has to push harder and spread the word. http://www.mpp.org/trials Email/Fax/Mail your senators on medical marijuana!

This case is more important than all of the media is telling you. Aside from confirming yet once again that the federal government has the absolute and sole power to determine what the law is, the only possible decision in reality will make give the federal government, state governments, and local governments to prohibit and punish people from using the medicine prescribed to them by their doctor. This is hugely significant. So far it's only been a few limited actions by the federal government, but the Supreme Court will introduce a national War on Medical Pot. I imagine that penalties will increase and enforcement and departments and teams and agencies will end up being created throughout America. Aside from the fact this will likely create more momentum to legalize drugs and throw off the government, it will continue to deny the development of the use of marijuana as a medical and psychological treatment and the development of the cannaboids into a huge number of effective treatments and likely even a cure for cancer although I may be somewhat optimistic, but the evidence points towards this happening within a decade or two if science is allowed to advance unchecked by the government's tyranny. The War on Drugs is ultimately the extension of the War on Cannabis. This action I would put in the category of the War on Pain, one of the worst wars waged on our own people ever devised.
