Ya'll might think I'm nuts but I really very much miss the old cr--k pipes.
Not for that stuff of course, but the glass pipes were awesome, gave the perfect hit, easy to conceal, carry and clean, and you could put water in it, which causes it to make a kind of tweeting birdlike noise.

Its the one that looks like this Sorry for the comments on that pic, I couldn't find a better one.

The ones I had ten years ago, or more..yeah more, were made of the world's cheapest glass and I can't even count how many I broke until I just stopped buying glass. I just wish I could find one made of pyrex with the same shape and functionality. Can't find these things anywhere now.

Default Quality Over Quantity

I gotta be honest. Just like everyone else I love the artistic and asthetic qualities of glass pieces but just like any other handmade piece of art their are some which are made more durable and with more quality than others.

I've seen some nice glass pieces that were well-made and stood up to wear and tear and normal use better than others. It all depends on how well it was made.

I use glass pipes and a glass/heavy ceramic bong for 99% of my smoking needs. Except for 1 glass pipe that I never should have bought (too thin, too bulky, but still hit well...), I've never had a real problem with chipping or breaking. My current work-horse can easily withstand a toss across the room and against the wall, even against the hardwood floor, so long as I'm not doing my Nolan Ryan impression. (My local headshop loves throwing pipes to show off durability, and I gotta admit, its fun to see when a customer doesn't expect it.) My pipes have gone everywhere with me, and rarely (for better or worse) is one not within my reach, whether I'm at home, getting my morning coffee, going to a football game, the beach, Christmas Dinner, wherever I go, with few exceptions.

How is glass not functional? I can't imagine anything more pleasant or efficient. I clean my current piece after every quarter or 8th or so, so its always in good shape and hits well. I taste only the bud, I never run out of rolling papers because I don't need 'em, the pipe doesn't get hot (like metal may), the pipe never burns unevenly or canoes on me, I use less bud than in a joint, it feels good in my hand...

I do have 2 pipes that are "art"-type bowls, but they were souvenirs from vacations and are a bit too big to be truly portable, but they have also delivered in the clutch when called upon. I didn't buy them to smoke out of, though, I bought them as decorative vases so to speak, and I got em pretty cheap, or I never would have bought them. In general, I consider utility much more than cosmetics when buying new glass, and while I love looking at beautiful, complex, work-of-art pipes and pieces as much as the next guy, I judge those I buy by a whole 'nother standard.

I don't make enough money to ever justify spending over 20 or 30 bucks for any smoking utensil , glass , brass , ass , or plastic .

but that's my problem !

Works out to be less in the long run, compared to buying lots of papers, cigars, wraps, or brownie mix.

I have two beautiful and yet cheep pieces of art which I smoke from. The first is my hand pipe which is a color changer. I like those cause after I'm done me and my friends marvel at it and have a discussion over munchies about how cool it is and wonder how they do it. That was $20. Then is my baby, my water bong. It's a medium size and has a nice mixed color to it and a grip that adds to the beauty of it. I baught it on sale when it was $35. They might not have fancy designs like dragon flies or other crazy shapes like I've seen that sell for $125 or so but to me (especially when me and my friends are high) they are a work or art that makes a great conversation over munchies. Besides if I had those fancy dragon fly ones I'd be too afraid to smoke from them with friends in fear they'd break em.

Default My New Toy

In light of the current poll, I thought I better post an image of my new bong, effective tonight.

It's a JTP, and as the guys from Trails explained that this is the same group of glass blowers that came from Jerome Baker Designs (JBD).

The piece is very heavy and has a lot of fuming and reversals. As a bonus, there are some bad ass marbles on this bong, including on that has a mushroom laid out in it. Im sorry, I just couldnt get it to show up in a picture, but - it's impressive none the less.

The Bong smokes like a champ! It's a 18 inch tube with a nice fat rez for plenty of water pull. This is my first water pipe in a long time, like... 8 years. All I can say is wow - I've been missing out!

I think I'll submit my new bong in the POTW contest over at HC.Com now

I hope you all like the image!

Default Hand Blown glass pipe

I purchased the coolest hand blown glass pipe back in January. It is about the size of the one hitter's that are metal and are painted to look like cigarettes. I used to have one of those, with a dugout, but I like the glass so much better. It came with a neat zip up cloth container to keep the pipe in, a metal rod to clean it, and a separate zip up compartment, that can be removed and re-attached with velcro.

I like glass better because it makes the taste so much better. I always hated the metal taste. It's a really pretty pipe, but I love it because I enjoy smoking more now. It's easy to clean too. The only problem I have with it is I never seem to get it completely clean. I use straight alcohol on it, but it seems to have a stain embedded in the glass that wont come out, even if it is soaked in alcohol for a period of time, detracting from the original beauty of the pipe.

Everyone I know thinks this thing is so cool and have never seen anything like it. Does anyone else know what I am talking about, or have one too?

This is my first post.
