| Im looking at buying a new tv, and theirs a 50" LG Plasma HDTV with 10 bit processing, its really cheap only 1999.99, i will be using this tv mainly for playing xbox 360 and watching movies. Now in my opinion the LCD tv's are much sharper and clearer, but they are much more expensive. Theirs about a 1000 price difference between the 50" plasma and lcd.... In your opinnion what is better plasma or lcd?

| Go with the plasma. I assure you that you won't be disappointed, and hey, neither will your wallet.

| There is no winner between these two in every area. Plasma gets the edge in most picture quality areas, but for gaming LCD is a little better due to more pixels per sq. inch. Plasmas have been better buys in the larger screens, but LCDs are getting bigger and cheaper. They're better in rooms that get a lot of light as well. All brands are not the same quality either. Check this out for how the two technologies work and how they compare in use. Both sites have reviews on different models too. LCD TV vs Plasma TV Which is Best? from LCD TV Buying Guide Plasma TV Buying Guide: Offers Plasma Television, DLP TV and LCD TV Buying Tips LCD TV Buying Guide: LCD TV Reviews and Buying Advice, Find the Best LCD Television These two sites seem to be run by the same people, but the info looks to be unbiased, and they have a list of authorized internet dealers with excellent prices and sometimes a free 5 yr. extended warranty. I looked at my local Costco and they couldn't compete with the on-line dealers on Panasonic plasmas nor were they able to provide a manufacturer's warranty, since they weren't authorized.

| If you're going to be doing a lot of gaming definitely go with the LCD. Static 'dashboards' are still a problem...

| I have a 32inch Sony plasma, and have never said "gee, this looks much worse than an LCD would". Maybe I'm still stuck on the price, but it really looks super to me. |

| It seems as if plasma is a better choice, although more expensive. The first few websites that came up all shared a similar opinion with this one.

| Plasma technology provides better contrast (black levels), especially when showing dark and light images at the same time. Color accuracy is also better with plasma, except in bright rooms. LCD loses out on viewing angle too, with the best LCDs giving between 120-130 degrees, while plasma has good viewing from 160 degrees. Plasma is also better for fast moving video playback, like sporting events. If you get good quality and view straight on in a bright room, or one with lighting from different angles, LCD is great. Otherwise, in general, plasma still provides a more accurate rendition. LCD is improving its weak areas, as is plasma. Good quality current LCDs are nearly the equal of plasmas on contrast (except off axis), while good quality plasma sets no longer suffer from burn in, unless you're going to leave a static image on display for 10-12 hours. Improvements are coming fast with big screen technology, and there are still a lot of older designs and off brand sets out there at bargain prices. You generally get what you pay for. But if you shop around you can get great pricing on current technology. And places like DTV City, Plasma Depot (yeah they sell LCD too), and DTV Express have good prices as well as being an authorized dealer for many of the major brands. Many places have good on-line pricing, but if you have a problem, it can be a nightmare if you try and take that problem back to an internet seller that isn't an authorized dealer. Some on-line dealers also have inside delivery available for an extra charge. |

| 5drive is exactly right. I did about a month of some solid research on everything from how plasma's work, to the picture they deliver. I have a 42" Hitachi Ultravision and have never been more satisfied. A truly off the chain picture. My advice, go with a company that you know will deliver a quality product. Cheaper doesnt always mean better for the money.
