Cool Whoa Dorito's....

you sure raised some interesting points!
Who will own the baby clone? When will it be told it's a clone?
I suppose that a baby clone will just be like any other baby, whoever is willing to take care of it will be the parent.
My next question is when will it be told that it's a clone? Is that going to really be neccesary?
In my reality,I feel like I am a clone or descendent of all of my ancestors anyway.I don't percieve a clone to be anymore or any less than I am,as far as it's persona,or the humanity of it.I think it will be extremenly dangerous to percieve a clone as anything else but a human being.
Suppose we could develop the technology to clone perfect replica's of ourselves?Does that mean we can kill them at will, just to have new body parts for me?It seems to me that the time will come where these nameless and perhaps faceless entities will be bred simply for the prolongation of rich peoples existence!
Cloning must continue,of course, and I really don't think that we could stop it if we want to.It must continue if for no other reason than to help preserve us as a society and species.
But as we go down this dangerous road,we need to always remember that these are flesh of our flesh, soul of our soul.

Think of this though before you go against it:...You wake up one morning and are told you are a clone. You are part of your father's dna and your mothers dna.You are perfect,or as close as the human race can be,disease free, straight bones and good teeth. You will live to be two hundred and never get tired or sick.

clones are soul-less imo, i dont really belive in souls and stuff, but if they do exists clones dont have them.

And you dont have your father & mothers DNA, if you did you would be unique, you just got DNA from the guy that got cloned and his parents, see? you are just a product of some greedy scientist.

This isn't cloning, but it is in the same field...

There was a scientist who was performing experiments on monkeys. He would cut the head off of two different monkeys and try to reattach them on the other monkey. He was able to keep them alive for a little while with the other one's head....head transplants in the future?

Cool I just don't think that...

it's a question of whether we are going to have cloning, folks.I think that clonong is pretty much a foregone conclusion.
What I would like to see is intelligent debate about how we,as a society, are going to handle the consequences of a society full of artificial humans.
Are we raising a future of soulless droids whose soul purpose is to serve us,the non-clone?
These are the questions that I think need to be addressed before the first ones are for sale for 125,000 bucks, and grandpa wants one for Christmas!

Default dedbr you said it! artificial humans!

thats what they are, artificial. What if in the future is not just clones, what about people wanting to make people, like you can choose the color of a car and the optionals.

Did you see that lesbian couple that with help of genetic engeneers 'bred' a deaf baby, saying that deafness is not a disease but an identity. Sure if you were born deaf i can see where you are going, but making your child deaf is, imo , TOTALLY unfair and selfish. Why the f*ck you want to take something as good as being able to hear music and birds chirping and make somebody live a totally silent life?!

crazy man, pure crazyness....

stop cloning humans!
start cloning marijuana!

the next step to immortality. the world is already at a current population of ..6 billion? and well, cloning would just take up more space, more resources that we would need in the future.

ever seen the movie: The Sixth Day

its ok. i dont care for arnold too much but i'm not talking about the actors, more of the theme. cloning was illegal in that movie, but still, there was a "blackmarket" that allowed you to clone. but then, if then they could also put in diseases to give you a short life span. now where would be the fun in that? now cloning just individual organs that have the possibilty to save lives,, i will still have to disagree because well, you are one person out of a lot. people need to accept death, and not try to be immortal.

this is the problem with this species. we think. we create, we want to play god. and by playing god we are a few steps closer to our ultimate goal. and what is that? immortality. cloning is just one of the steps involved and i think it should stay illegal for the very purpose of "people should not be immortal!"

sorry if that didnt make sense. it does for me, but then agian, i'm stoned

Ever see the movie Gattaca? Racism faded away. The only thing that mattered anymore was if you were engineered, or you weren't. The "god children" were all janitors. The engineered people were detectives, space pilots and doctors. Not because the flawed children couldn't perform the better jobs, but because their genes said they weren't as good a match for the good jobs. So they didn't get hired. It was illegal to discriminate. But they checked your genes anyway; from your handshake; from a legal urine drug-test. It was pretty frightening.

I'd most certainly like to have a body backup. If I got hit by a bus, they could graft my brain into my body backup, inject some stem cells to reconnect my spinal cord, and a few weeks later my eyes would open and I'd learn to walk and talk again.

They could raise a body from birth to death without it being conscious once. We could farm organs from it. It can't talk, speak, or communicate with us so it's not exactly a person. But it's still alive, isn't it? It would have to be alive to be useful.

[thinking]

What makes me, me? Is it my arm? No, my arm is not me. Is it my leg? No, my leg is not me. Neither is my heart, or my chest. Is my brain me? I could survive minor brain damage and still be me.

Where's that spark of intelligence? What could you take away, without killing me, to make "me" disappear?

Maybe, maybe I'm more than a collection of memories. If I hit my head and amnesia set in, I would still be me. Maybe me, is just being alive, like a cohesive personality in my cells. A clone would be like me but with complete memory loss. So clones are people too. Farming from it is as wrong as if I took your sister's kidneys.

Hmm... [thinking]

Lots of implications here.

You can't take "me" away without killing me. So, if this intelligence that is "me" isn't merely a side-effect of my large brain but is instead a gifted part of being alive. Like a..

Perhaps a soul is merely life, being alive; nothing more and nothing less.

Sorry to deviate from the topic at hand, but this is some incredible stuff. I'm sober and yet I feel drunk.

I would still be me if you cut my eyes and ears out. My God. Me isn't located in my head. So where am I?

stem cells are okay by me, its got some issues too but i can let that one slide

what about if people start getting clones as pets? you know, kids would play with them and when´the clones got old and ugly they would put it to sleep.

or even worse, what if people start slavering clones?

Cool Slaving clones?

Thats exactly what would happen! But it could get even more devious than that.
If clones are merely"artificial intelligence",and not up to human standards, then clones will do all the dangerous stuff, won't they?
What if you could make as many suicide bombers as you wanted?
As many jet pilots? As many soldiers?
They could be breed to function however you wanted them to .
Any area that is dangerous to "normal" people, the clones could take the job.Firefighter, policeman, any dangerous job you could think of......
Money would be the only thing to stop you from breeding your own army, with no loss to your "normal" population. You could have a whole population of clones that looked exactly like you right down to voice and everything.
This is definately a good subject to discuss now.If cloning could be refined to that level of perfection, just think of the possibility's.
When I started researching this,I basically wanted to know how it could affect vision loss or or other physical things that could be
fixed with new tissue growth, but there is so much to think about
besides the medical problems that could be fixed.
I talked to a priest in a catholic church about the churches position on cloning.I asked him if a clone had a soul, and he said that the church has issued a statement saying if a clone is made,it will have an immortal soul.

It WILL have a soul.

But who's soul will it be?
