I'm iffy on the subject of cloning. Yes it could produce many positives, but the negative effects seem to outway the positive ones. If cloning is perfected, than life expectancy will increase greatly...I don't know about you guys, but I have no intentions or desires to live well beyond 100. Yes, if it occured naturally then I would accept it, but to purposely extend one's life indefinitely (perhaps to the point of immortality) seems like rather a curse than a blessing. My body is only intended to last so long and when it quits on me then thats fine with me.
On the topic of "artificial" humans, from the insights we've had, do you really want to propel yourself (as well as support) this "Brave New World" where we would live surrounded by Alphas, Betas, Deltas, and Gammas. Dedbr, I know you said you support cloning but if you say that cloning would lead to this race of "artificial" humans...are you not scared of the dehumanization of society as a whole? And honestly who is to declare and decide that certain "artificial" humans should be the ones to be the suicide bombers, police officers etc...and who is to say that their life is less valuable than yours. I know Aldous Huxley's Brave New World was a work of fiction, but honestly it should serve as a warning to all of what can and obviously may happen to society as we know it.
I know cloning may have its good intentions, but who can forget -- "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" and I'd rather not see society shot to hell b/c scientists decided to play god or whatever it is that you believe in.

thats exactly my point.We need to discuss and make these decisions now,and not some distant future.
Whatever it is that I believe in doesn't have anything to do with the discussion about cloning.I just want to be able to come up with good reasonable decisions about this subject before I make the decision to have anything done.
Have a clone of me?Sure,why not.I kinda like me,and I know a few other people that think I'm an alright guy,so how about it,should I clone the Dedbr,or what?
Two of me would have to be better than one.And since he's not going to be a real person,if I need a liver or something,he shoould be glad to give me his.After all,I gave him life,didn't I?Without me,he wouldn't of ever felt anything,or done anything.

dedbr you can be a nice guy, but that doesnt mean your clone will be, thats what i said erlier, enviroment is a major factor, he wont have your childhood and your parents, your morals and your belifes! And dont think if you clone yourself you get a xerox of you instantly, it will born a baby and will grow up in a totaly different envoriment.

What if your clone start killing people and blowing up houses with hand granades? You'll you take responsibity for his acts, i dont think so! So now you want to send him to jail and you pretend you never met him...and if he doesnt want to give you his kidney what are you going to do, kill him? you think thats fair?

I think this raises the same issues as with cows or pigs. We raise these animals for the sole purpose of being killed and eaten. Why do we not have a problem with animal farms but we are against human farms? If someone needs a heart valve, they can kill a pig and take it from him. I don’t know how I feel about the issue of human clones. On the one hand, we could get some serious benefits from clones. Replacement organs and everything sound good, but on the other hand, I am a strong believer in survival of the fittest. If we begin to mess around with this process, what’s going to happen?

Do you have a cat or a dog in your house?Does your dog run around robbing and murdering?Is your cat a pedophile?
If we have a clone,by your way of thinking it won't be the same as a normally concieved child,so I suppose that we will have to have a S.P.C.C.,Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Clone's,huh?Protect them like you do your animals.
So maybe they will have to live under the same rules as the animals, too?If they hurt someone,or otherwise upset the proper order of society,then they will be destroyed like a rabid dog would have to be,huh?
Come on now, Dorito's,I think we are on to something!If,by your example,they are merely artificial,then they won't need to be treated like a normal person,they could even be thought of the same way we think about our cars,need a new one,just go get one.With a clone,if he dies defending the family from danger,like a dog would do,we could just load him in a freezer box and bury him in the back yard.
Clones are getting handier and handier,seems like to me.They have no rights,you can have as many as you want,and they won't have to be treated any better than a dog or cat.
Sounds pretty good so far,huh?

Soulless? A human being is a human being, whether it was manufacturered or conceived in love. Frankly, it isn't fair to argue intelligence as a factor either - since we don't stop people who are naturally conceived and born from being stupid.

A clone could only be considered 'merely a creation of science to further knowledge' if it has no brain, no mind, no life of its own.

Why shouldn't cloning be used to 'manufacture' body parts - IF it can actually be used that way - wouldn't it eliminate the black market harvesting of organs from living people?

Just like a good breed of dog,we breed 'em for the strength's and try to breed out the weaknesses.Every once in a while you'll get an egg sucking dog,so you get rid of the bad ones and keep the good ones.
