| Does the end justify the means? Things like the war in Iraq, is it worth killing thousands in hopes that we save more eventually? Is an orwellian state good because there are more crimes and more criminals are caught and punished? Is sending kids through 12 years of forced education worth it because the kids generally learn to obey and be good factory workers? Peace, HN-

| Is answering this post worthless because you really aren't asking a question? Rather, you are voicing your own bias? Quote:
So that's why I am sending them through 12 years of forced education (actually, 13)! ![]()

| HN-I'm not gonna touch the education thing with a 10 foot pole. However, in general, I'll state what I think about ends justifying means. The ends never justify the means, because there really aren't ends at all, only means, that lead to other means, that lead to other means, and so on. That is, what you think is an end is really just another means. All actions are interlinked, and saying that a result of an action is an end ignores the fact that that result has effects on many, many other things, and will lead to other results and actions, which will lead on, and on, and on. I'll make a little picture, since I know this sounds obtuse as hell means-ends means-ends means-ends (bad, NO)means-means-means-means-means... (yes)

| I really should have left my bias examples out of this poll. I wasnt in a centered state of mind when I posted. You know me I like to go off on a tangent on every little issue.... Anyway, interesting view there WNB. Peace, HN- |
