Basically, you said that when you go to buy weed, you're exposed to an opportunity where you can purchase some other kind of drug which makes you more likely to do so. But, if that were true, weed would still be the first step...the gateway. According to your scenario, if a person wasn't using marijuana in the first place, he wouldn't be in a situation where other drugs would become available to him, which is exactly what some people would actually want you to believe.

How exactly would that whole gateway theory even work if this type of situation wasn't exactly what people are talking about when they tell you it is a gateway drug? What else would you expect, that the weed itself grew two legs and walked over to a dealer and bought some heroin for you that it then peer-pressured you into using? Good God.

The other thing I want to say is, what the hell? Did you hear this on some sort of "above the influence" commerical or something? Because I have never been in a situation where I was trying to buy pot and a dealer encouraged me to purchase some other kind of drug in addition to or in lieu of the pot. I mean, it's not like I was buying my weed from Suzie Highschool or the kids from Full House, either. Of course I've dealt with dealers who also sell other drugs, but if I was ever there to buy weed, I never had anyone say, "Hey you like this? Well try this?" Seriously. That whole theory is so lame.

People that abuse heroin or ice may have smoked weed - and copious ammounts at that, but not everyone who smokes weed goes on to injecting. If there was no weed, we would have different so-called "gateway drugs". By naming it such, it just gives the authorities a reason to crack down on it's users - through scare tactics and manipulated information.
