I completely disagree. After extended periods of smoking pot, you eventually get bored with the predictable high. I remember my first time getting high, it was awesome. I didn't know what was coming, and that's what made it exciting, and the best experience of my pot-smoking career. You'll never be able to match the first time experience i find, because from there on out you know what the high is like. The only way to duplicate (or attempt to duplicate) this feeling is by taking a different drug for the first time.

Curiosity definately plays a part in it, but for me, the risks of harder drugs far outweigh the curiosity of them.

I'm kind of divided on this--in some sense, I think the people who are attracted to weed are naturally predisposed to trying other "mind-enhancing stimulants," if I may coin the phrase. Conversely, I know that after some really trippy experiences with weed (like last night, seeing colors and such), I'm curious to try some other things...

My first time actually wasn't all that stellar--pretty freaky, actually And fwiw, I have yet to get bored of it. Take a few weeks off and then smoke a bowl

I don't think weed is a gateway drug. The only "drug" I use on a regular basis is marijuana. I do on accasion dable with a couple of other off topics but only like once or twice a year. I like the feeling I get when I'm high. I just don't enjoy the feeling other off topics give me as much as I do marijuana.

I've smoked weed for 3 years and have never done, and will never do any other drugs but weed, occasionally off-topic beverages, and caffeine. I have been offered harder drugs, and in a way pressured to do them and I was curious... but I decided awhile ago to steer clear of harder drugs and it's not that hard to do so.

Oh, and marijuana isn't a gateway drug.

oneyeedhobbit - if you are tripping-out/halucinating from smoking weed, I would maybe think twice about where you are getting it. I had that happen once, turns out the weed was laced with something off-topic. Now all I smoke is good 'ole homegrown that was grown in my backyard by me.

In my opinion, marijuana is a gateway drug only if you let it be a gateway drug. I did my fair share of off-topic drugs in highschool, had some scary experiences with them, and then said "no more". Some of the people I used to smoke with didn't say no.

Now I just stick to weed. If I had wanted to get in to some harder stuff, I could have got it no problems. But I made the decision to stay away from it.

I've wondered this myself. It happened to me a couple of times this summer though, smoking with friends who had respectable (or so they claimed) sources. Its not like I'm seeing hard illusions, I just see color patterns sometimes (only when really ripped out). I guess it just seems like everything is amplified so much--I was walking around the other night and the normal noises of the city were amplified to this cacophony of sound that was sort of nerve-jarring. I dunno, I'd love to find a better source where I'm at, if anyone is in chicago and knows of one let me know.
