if it's high quality and i'm lookin for a quickie then i'll throw a nugget or two in. If this bowl's between me and at least two or three other people then I'll shred it to make it tighter.

I always get real dank bud, so I don't see much point in grinding it. I usually just pop a bud in, except, of course, when I'm rolling a joint.

Even if I cant chop it I always try to break the buds up a bit. I found that chopped (not ground) cannabis holds a chery fraily well. The chopper I use is a canadian one made by some guy that used to own a small hemp shop in my area, he made these grinders and they got so popular he started making and selling them full time, his shop now closed has been pirated into a baby gap or something equally unapealing.
I was taking some pictures of the chopper but the batteries in my digital camera crapped out, maybe i'll post it later. Anyway my chopper is the kind with the triangular teeth that tear the cannabis appart rather than grinding it. It's a plastic sphere with an impresion on both halves that has some little bumps to provide more grip and a flat spot on the bottom so it doesn't roll away, it has two magnets (one on each side of the sphere) that do an excelent job of keeping it together. Oh and it has a big friendly smily face on it. and its yellow.

I just break the nug by hand and put it in.

When you bust nugs by hand you risk losing a substantial amount of THC rubbing off on your fingers. You should try to use snips and a shotglass at the very least. I use a big metal bud buster myself.

THC will stick to the shot glass too and snips....its not like its off topic white powder that much THC loss will barely,not even noticabely, effect the high...

It depends on too many things to give one general answer. Shredded weed will burn faster than a nugget. If the pot i have doesn't burn well in nugget form (like the stuff i am smoking now), i'll chop it up first. If it burns in a nugget, i'll usually just toss one in and light it up.

If its just me smoking, i will not chop it up if i can, because chopped up pot will cherry a bit better, wasting more smoke between my hits. If its a bunch of us smoking, i'll chop it up so it cherries well from person to person.

if you shred and pack you will get a better smoke no dought. its easier for the flame to reach the weed in a bowl, its not salad bowling to were you cant light. i say shred and pack. its SWEET lol
