| I've decided to write a philosophy paper explaining non-scientifically, why weed causes temporary forgetfulness. I really wanted to write mainly about how I think smoking AFTER learning helps you form deep memories, but ended up spending most of the time explaining an apparant contradiction to my claim. It would be awsome if I could get some feedback on my rough rough draft, which is basically just a transcript of my brainstorming. It's a demonstrative paper so the argument doesn't need to be true, I just need your opinions on whether, if the facts I state are assumed true, the hypothesis would have to be true also. ----Brainstorm---- That I'm able to find things more ammusing while stoned. Finding something funny is based on past experiences, like if you shiat a brick a long time ago, and then heard a joke about crapping concrete; the joke would be even better because your brain found a memory to relate the joke too. I think remembering stuff is based on some kind of metronome. A part of your brain spits out the same message many times per second, and each brain cell that hears the message sends out another ping (think how rumors are spread, or computer viruses). The more cells the brain gets a chance to talk to, the more you can extract from your memory. This also applies to forming new ideas BTW. The more random pulses/second, the more ideas/sec. Once I even trained my brain to paint a twinkling star on my eyelids. After a few seconds the sky would be full. Back to the subject, is my hypothesis: Marijuana could be used to help form new memories and make them permanent. By getting stoned AFTER you had studied, your brain would bring forth a lot of things to tie onto these short-term memories, turning them into long-term memories. But why does marijuana make people forgetful while they're high? The answer lies in reearangng the linear relationship between long-term memory formation and pschycoactive concentration in the brain. Marijuana seems to cause your senses to leave more to the imagination, it dulls your senses. Hallucinations (the strongest kind of delusion), happen because your visual system can't fill in a blank area (one where neither black nor white nor anything in between were observed, so your imagination had to fill in the blank. The very fact that your visual system decieves itself more often when stoned is because your brain tells it to. Seriously, since your brain is thinking up more ideas (and remember that ideas occur hundreds of times/second). Normally the neurotransmitters of this circuit aren't even active, but the brain of someone seeing hallucinations works so fast that the signal reaches even the distant visual-system control zone. These zones send out their pulse, which goes to the visual-system and tells it to stop working so hard. The same thing happens with your hearing and other senses. They might not actually send back a blank signal, but they might have reduced clarity so you don't recieve as many details (whoa dude, I can stare at the sun and it all it does is make my eyes buzz). In such a case, your senses are being mixed up. Things are more pleasurable (or the opposite when in a paradoid mood) when high. Your brain is able to create more variations in how senses are percieved, and choose the most enjoyable one (you can train brains to do this, mice will learn to avoid dangers, therefore sparing themselves pain) (on a related note, rat's will nibble crack rocks instead of cheese. maybe this shouldn't be in the paper). ------------ All that shiat up above is the rough rough rough draft of a paper I'm writing for philisophy class. The assignment is to argue for an argument that is "embeded" within a much larger set of arguments. Meaning, that to get to the outermost layer of truth would require prooving a lot of other facts first. If my thought would make a good paper topic you guys should be able to come up with lots of reasons why you think those thought are wrong. Thanks |
