I'm starting this thread based on some comments posted in the "who is the smartest stoner alive" thread. Since it is rather limited to vote for a living stoner, maybe it would be more interesting to pick a favorite stoner figure from the entire history of the world. And by "smart" we also mean the most historically important figure, it doesn't have to be what is generally considered as an "intellectual".

Anyway, my vote:

Charles Baudelaire, French poet and huge hash aficionado, author of the fantastic "Artificial paradises".
