So recently a bunch of my chick friends have decided to get fake nails with little decals on them. Sweet, cute, adorable I know, but really- that kind of stuff isn't for me. Not to mention the price; $35! I know, compared to a lot of other places, that is pretty cheap. Still, for platic bits stuck to your nails, I think that is an outrageous spend.

So instead, I've decided to grow my nails long.

Which brought me to thinking... How long to 'normal' people keep their nails? I guess this is, in a sence, a female oriented question, since a lot of guys I know keep their nails short for the reason of they get quite dirty.
Thats one of the downsides to having long nails, they tend to get all gross with dirt. I've taken advantage of this situation and flopped it around- I'm going to try and be a 'cleaner' person, washing my hands regularily, and scrubbing them before I eat ect ect. (The reason being is that I am constantly sick cause I go to a school with 800+ teenagers, and cutbacks on janotorial services are really showing...)

Anyway, back to the main point of this poll.Hahaha, I got a little carried away in my story. A friend of mine always does that, she starts waaay back to the begining of how something happened and then inches her way to the point...
...Er, yeah. So, do you have long fingernails, medium, or short?

It's hard to say for me...

If I see any white at the end of my fingers that's more than probably half a millimeter long I bite my nail off on the spot no matter where I am...yeah it's gross I know.

But people tell me my nails are long all the time even though they're trimmed as short as I can get them without them getting painful and super sensitive.

I play lots of guitar and I do some finger picking on acoustic. Typically people use their fingernails as picks but my nails don't go near the strings...and still people tell me they're long.

EDIT: Oops I voted before I realized you were aiming it at females...but my vote is still valid because that's how my girlfriend is

Personally I like to keep mine as short as possible for some reason. I worked in fast food a couple years back and stuff getting under my nails was too gross to handle, so I think I developed it then. Oops and yeah I just now see that this was supposed to be aimed at girls, but I already voted, sorry!

Haven't stopped biting since I was like 4, man. How is this a "bad" or "discusting" habit?

I let mine grow and they break off occasionally.

I don't usually paint or shape them. I just don't have the time or patients. I should color them now, I have one that is really ugly purple from when I smashed it a couple of weeks ago.

You need one more option on your poll: I let them grow til they break off.

i let mine grow til they break too, but when one breaks, i trim them all down so they are about the same length so it doesnt look weird.
ive been told i have nice nails. not too long, but very feminine
i paint them occasionally and let the paint chip off on its own cause i think it looks cool, although i think everyone else in the world thinks it makes me look like a nasty hobo, my nail polish all chipped off, but i like it for some reason.

I let mine grow till they break also. When I was younger I used to bite them off all of the time. I also have a habit of painting my nails and then chipping the polish off a couple of days later.

i usuallu just ignore them for a long time, then clip them.
lately ive clipped them more often, its easier to play the bass with short fingernails.
yea i dont paint mine ever, cause im a guy.

I keep mine incredibly short. Long is just uncomfortable not to mention who wants to get scratched by someone?

when i cut mine i cut pretty much all the white off but then ill let them grow for awhile and cut them again. i would think cutting them like every 3 days or somthing just to keep them short wouldnt allow them to grow strong or somthing, but hey i have no idea.
