| I don't want to die at all. I accept that it's an inevitability, that doesn't mean I want to die. |

| Maybe science will be able to keep your brain alive and then network it into a huge collective and your thoughts will join together with other members of the hive mind. So you won't be dead or be alone. |

I could see an issue with the Glial cells in the brain though, considering that they continue to undergo cell division into adulthood (and presumably if you transplanted the brain into a jar inside of a machine they would still continue to divide...) and this might cause an issue with Telomere's. | |

| I'm sixteen and I grew up with my grandparents. I watched them become more and more out of touch with reality, and watching my grandfather become senile before his death gave me a rather unique perspective on old age; I don't want it. Honestly, I don't think men were meant to live longer than 50 years. Before the advent of agriculture, our hunter-gathering ancestors never lived that long. It was only until modern medicine that we were able to extend our life expectancy far past it's natural course, and for the most part these people are miserable. My friend, she works in a home made for the elderly whose family dumped them there. She works usually during the night, so most of her experience is with their night terrors and screaming in their sleep, but for the most part she says they're very unhappy. The stereotype for the teenage age group is high suicide rates, but in all actuality the 65-85 age group has the highest suicide rate in the US. I think the reason teenagers are stereotyped for suicide is because we're less suspectable to certain natural caused deaths like diabetes. But that is neither here nor there. I know men of all ages can be happy, but I also know no man can be happy during all ages, and for me it is old age that is most depressing. I voted 40-50.

| I voted 80-90. I think it's a combination of genetics and good living. I'll soon be joining my Grandpa on the farm where he's worked his entire life. He's 92 and still going strong, cattle, horses, crops. I know that for most old people the misery starts after they feel like they have nothing to live for, like being moved into a nursing home. If you've got something to keep you going and to wake up for each morning then you've got a better chance of staying healthy and active. |

| I want to live to be four hundred and twenty... ![]() But for real, I don't really think it is so much about a certain age, as it is about a condition. If i'm 100 and still able to think straight, read, and walk, then of course i want to keep living. However if I loose all those abilities at 50, then I want to kick the bucket. Also, I never want to become a burden to young people. I read in a Newsweek or something similar that after the age of 60 brain mass starts to decline at a much more rapid rate (like between .5 and 1% per year). You can decrease the acceleration of brain mass loss by diet and exercise. Also, since MJ increases blood flow to the brain, that might help! |
