| I used to not like scary movies at all when I was younger. I still dont think I really like them, but feel kind of drawn to watching them occasionally. I dont get why I watch them, I guess its a kind of curiousity. I dont like feeling afraid or seeing gore like people getting chainsawed up. So why do you or society in general enjoy scary/horror movies? |

| sorry. I find some amusing, but even though I know it's all just liquid plastic and whatnot I cringe when there's realistic nasty gore. I really just can't look. And if it's somewhat of a scary movie, my overactive ADD imagination always gets the best of me when I'm alone and start scaring the shit out of myself |

| It's similar to the thrill of going on a roller coaster, or, to a more extreme degree, bungie-jumping. It's a test of courage, being able to watch something that genuinely scares the hell out of you. It's a bittersweet fulfillment, imo. Of course, horror movies haven't scared me since I was like 10. I only watch them now for the gore factor. And yes, I have been disappointed by modern, supposedly scary movies, including the Ring. The Ring was a great story, very well-directed, but it hardly scared me at all. Not like how I heard people talking about it. "Holy crap, it wasn't scary when I watched it, but afterwards I was all freaked out and had to sleep with the lights on!" I envy those people. ![]() Since I don't really get frightened by movies, I'm more fond of survival horror games. The last one to truly freak me out while playing was Silent Hill. It wasn't so scary that the fear carried on into non-playing hours, but while playing... well, it was like a test of courage, like I mentioned.

I also believe that future historians will look at this epoch and recognize it as another instance of the 'madness of crowds.'" ~Dr. Lester Grinspoon |

| i watch them because i enjoy being shocked, and I enjoy being scared. Fear is among the most primal of emotions, and its nice to experience the rush it provides, knowing deep down that you are never in any real danger. AS far as shock value goes, I've always been drawn to the darker side of things. However, I've become so desensatized to vioelnce/gore/etc it takes something as over the top as a straight up horror movie to even get me to bat an eye. If a movie causes me to jump more than twice, and to actually have to look away from the screen at any point, then its worthwhile. What I hate are "horror" movies that are straight up boring. I'm disappointed every time I watch one that I find sub-par, which happens all too frequently
