| While the U.S. is fighting wars across the globe, it seems not enough is being done for our own people. Every day that I leave my house, I can see them everywhere, homeless people walking the cold streets, begging for food, sleeping under bridges, its very sad to see and yet its growing every day more and more people are finding them selfs homeless because of skyrocketing rents and peanuts for wages. We are the most powerfull nation in the free world and it seems like nobody wants to look in the mirror to see if anyone got left behiend. In a mood again, Stoney ![]() |

| Dude, I thank you solemnly for posting this thread, you ae correct in every way, and I agree 100 percent. How could we sit there and feed a nation we are at war with (afghanistan), when so many of our own go hungry every day and are denied help by OUR OWN GOVERNMENT! Everyone that voted Bush should take a look around, instead of being power hungry, we should be economically happy, we don't need their damn oil, oh and if our govt. didn't want the trade center to be hit than why did G. Bush's brother take the security for the trade centers and lower it, ect. taking out bomb sniffing dogs, and shutting security down... right before the attacks. I'll be posting a thread in the video section with a link to a video that will change everyones outlooks on 9/11. Gore might have been a wimpy dude, but hey, at least we wouldn't have so many countries against us. |

| I do not agree. Homeless people 90% of the time are just too lazy to get a job or look for some work. Instead they'd rather beg and not do anything for themselves. This doesnt apply to all, but definately most. In Miami, apparently they are going up to homeless people and offering to buy them a bus ticket out of town to stay with family if they want. This is to try and help lower the homeless in the city obviously, but its still good for the homeless.

| I don't know about the 90% statistic, but I do agree that the majority of people who remain homeless stay that way by choice. They have places to go, but choose not to, for whatever reason. I saw a documentary not to long ago. They followed a homeless guy in L.A. and heard his story. He'd been on drugs and whatnot. There's a lot of shame issues with his family, and they have issues with him. He's made no attempt to overcome the familial issues to try to get back to some semblance of a better life. He lives under a bridge and collects cans to recycle. they gave the guy $100,000 to see what he would do and how he would deal with it. I didn't get to see the end result, unfortunately. When someone sits on the street corner with a sign saying "please help", I won't do it. In my mind that's begging. At least the people that run up to wash your windshield or sell fruit or play an insturment are trying to do SOMETHING to make some cash. That's showing some initiative, at the very least. Sadly, more homeless people don't take this tack. I have nothing against the homeless and have had lengthy discussions with them many times when out and about. When I was in New Orleans a few years ago, I was talking to a homeless lady in Jackson Square as I sipped my daquiri and waited for the Mardis Gras Museum to open. Her story was pretty lame, but I felt her pain nonetheless. her situation sucked. I didn't give her any money, but I did give her a bit of bud I had on me. This was the top-flight stuff I got from my hookup in NorCal, too. I'm willing to bet there was a homeless party thit night.

| I understand that there are some...more than 1/2 that are homeless by choice. My opening this thread was to say that not enough was being done through agencies such as the social services dept., public housing; and general relief programs, including SSI,SSA,SSDI, some of these people were simply victims of being poor, old or disabled and have nothing to start over with let alone getting the help when its needed! Now those that stand at freeway exits.....well....(hell no)....if they can stand there all day,and are able bodied other than looking pathetic. Stoney ![]() |

| It shouldnt be the job of the gov't to help homeless people. I think that should strictly be charity. I dont want the gov't stealing my money to give to homeless people. I might even donate to charity but the gov't needs to stay out of everything it possibly can. |
