| A few years ago I always thought caffeine was the softest and mildest drug. It is easy to develop this delusion in an age where the dangers of a drug are associated with its legality and how regulated it is. Caffeine is legal and completely unregulated all over the world, and this can give the impression to many people that it is harmless. It certainly isn't harmless. In fact the physical dangers are greater than that of weed. Cannabis has little physical health risks compared to caffeine. And most of the dangers associated with weed come from smoking it. Even if you smoke it, you won't ever have to worry about dying from cannabis use since it is nearly impossible to overdose on weed. The diseases a person can get from smoking weed are never near fatal or life threatening (based on the evidence we have now). And of course cannabis isn't physically addictive. Caffeine on the other hand is pretty addictive and withdrawal can be pretty difficult. Although most of the physical health risks don't lead to death, some do (compared to weed which has little to no risks that lead to death). One notable risk is overdose of course and there are many cases of death from caffeine overdose. For more information on the health issues associated with caffeine use check out the wiki articles for it; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffein...and_withdrawal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffeine#Overuse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffein...e_intoxication http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffein...leep_disorders That isn't to say that caffeine is a drug no one should take. There are many health benefits associated with its use but there are definite dangers from taking it, especially compared to cannabis. |

| caffeine is very dangerous and theres been lots of overdoses and deaths and disease occuring from caffeine. Caffeine can give you breast cancer, heart disease and a few other diseases and complications. Id say marijuana is much better for you than caffeine is and not to mention caffeine is veryyyy addictive! |

| lets be fair, you cannot say that weed is more mild than caffeine, the physiologial effect, especially of good marijuana is way more than one cup of joe, but thats the reason why i smoke.

| By mild and softer I think he means which drug does less damage to your body. The high from weed is without a doubt stronger than caffeine but caffeine can kill you. That's why weed is "mild and softer." |

| I don't feel anything from ingesting caffeine. It does nothing. Weed is definitely milder in the sense that it does much less damage.

| Same here, caffeine does nothing to me, and weed can knock my socks off...so i voted caffeine as being milder/softer. IDK what it is, caffeine just doesnt really ever do anything to me. THe only time i'v noticed it is after 4 shots of espresso in a 10 minute period, but it still wasnt anything major. I also dont drink caffeine very often so...go figure...i dont know. Edit: I didnt really read the whole first post, so I would change my vote to caffeine if i could. SOOO many people are addicted to it, its a joke...its so annoying when im visiting home. My parents require like 3 cups of coffee to funciton in the morning, and then have to have some sort of coffee/soda beverage every 2 hours after that to stay feeling good...its insane! How is that not an addiction!? wtf government! pull your heads out!!!! |

| Yes, this is what I mean. By milder and softer I mean less damaging to the body, not how powerful the high is. Of course weed has a more powerful high, but is softer and milder as far as health risks goes. |

| I didn't know caffeine is called a drug... I realize it's addictive (so many fuckin people drink coffee like mad). That's funny... marijuana is called a drug because it is mind-altering, yet is it benefitial to you and illegal and not addictive. Then, on the other hand, I have never really heard of caffeine being called a drug, yet it is addictive, legal, worse for you, and like speed. I'd imagine you can get heart palpitations from caffeine, too, just like energy drinks. |

| I voted that caffiene was softer and milder just because of effects on the functioning mind/body. I'm reading all of this stuff that you guys are writing...you guys seem like the Drug Czar trying to make caffiene illegal or something. Responsible caffiene use is extremely benificial to people and for society. I don't think we could have had the Industrial Revolution without caffiene coming...
