i have dreadlocks.....im a mutt...meaning i have a bunch of races in my genes.....but i have white skin because my mom is white and my dad is 1/4 white to answer your question i will refer you to a website that teaches you how to dread your hair real easy and i suggest you buy some of their products because it makes the going a whole lot smoother and some are a must. www.dreadheadhq.com i suggest you get the super dread starter kit...it comes with a dvd ad also get the dread maintainence kit for starters anyway back to my dreads, ive had dreads 3 times in my life...this being the third...i really dont wanna talk about the other 2 times...bad memories...good dreads...i just dont wanna talk about how i lost them is all... my dreads are about7 inches long right now...some are super pinners and others are fatties...i didnt do it on purpose...i went with the neglect method for about 6 months and then decided to speed up the process...so yeah i like it though, its a variety. i have 12 green glass beads for my pinners, 11 wooden beads for the fatties, 3 rastaflag peyote stitches with a potleaf on each one to hide any booboos, and three green dread coils for the medium sized ones.....oh and some hemp wraps. i dont wear a tam, i show off my dreads all the time. dreads can be a pain in the ass because(contrary to popular belief) washing them is an absolute must, clean dreads are happy dreads....after i wash them and let them dry i spray them with a sea salt solution and hand roll them with some locking peppa to help any loose hairs dread back into the main one....that takes a few hours....not including time it take for them to completely dry....then after all that is done i have to put beezwax in to keep in moisterized and healthy.....and to make them look better and smoother....yadda yadda yadda i sleep with a beanie on to help protect them sorry i kinda rambled on this, im fuckin baked

| didnt really read many of the posts in this but here my experience: i used to have dreads, and i am white but that doesnt matter. i had them for about 4-5 years. i had someone i know make them for me which required me washing my hair with this soap that dried it out for 2 weeks(and the whole time i had them) and then my hair was really dry and all he did was take a comb and combed my hai downwards and just really tightly tangled strands together, no wax nothing. just a comb. they turned out really nice, and the whole time i had them they grew very nicely. i loved them, they were worth it. im actually thinking about doing them again soon. as for taking them out, by the time i decided to there would have been no possible way to remove them without cutting my hair to less than an inch long. my dreads were bassically a solid piece, i cut some in half and it was just insane man. just this solid mass of tangled hair hidden behind a small forest of somewhat less tangly hair. man those were the days...... somewhere in dreamerland...... |

its like saying "ummm......yeah...excuse me...excuse me, sir.....I want a hamburger...but I only want half of it to be real meat...could you make the other half tofu?" You have suceeded in pissing me off, congrat-fuck-u-lations. And it wouldnt work for a good number of reasons.... 1. i would imagine you want your nondreaded hair to be all silky smooth and prissy looking...la la la la da...therefore you are probably planning on using conditioner in it...right? you cant, conditioner will destroy your dreads...hell...normal shampoo will destroy dreads because of the conditioners present in it. 2. you have to work dread wax into your dreads, your undreaded hair would stick to them and eventually combine with them unless you spent 10 minutes every hour removing your undreaded from your dreadlocks 3. you wash dreads at much longer intervals than you do normal hair. if you wanted to wash your normal hair you would have to at least get your dreads wet....getting your dreads wet too much can lead to mold growing in them 4. it would look retarded. that simple. as for girls having dreadlocks, i think its hot. i dreaded my girls head up and she looks great

| i think its possibley the biggest turn on ever, just my opinion. And i have had dreads for years, all natural, never used anything to put them in, just let them come. my hair was like 6 inches past my shoulders when it started dreading. and there is no way once youve had em a while, that there commin out, its just not gonna happen.

| I like the way dreads look...on other people. I just can't see myself with them. I'd imagine them to be really itchy and I couldn't deal with that. My hair is about 2 feet long and is already a bitch to take care of. I just don't have the time to commit to it. I have always liked the way they look and always want to ask (people with them) if I can touch them, but I don't want to be rude. I had a friend with dreads and I loved playing with them. Girls or guys...both look great with dreads. I've seen some really cool looking ones and some really stupid looking one's IMO, dreads are not meant for everyone. Some people just look better with dreads. To those of you WITH dreads...do a lot of people ask to touch them?
