It is my opinion that you stop smoking if you are even thinking about getting pregnant. I am a mom of 3 and 33 yrs. old and I speak from experience. When ny husband and I decided to start "trying" for our first child, I stopped my occasional smoking habit. I breastfed our first child for thirteen month, during which time I never touched the stuff. About a month after he was weaned, I had a hen party, complete with lots of weed and lots of wine. The next week I found out I was pregnant (just at the beginning of the pregnancy) with twins. When my twins were born, one was normal sized for being 4 weeks early (6lbs., 5 oz), but one was only 3 lbs., 10 ounces. Yes, being pregnant with twins opens you and the babies up to a whole set of isues that don't come about when pregnant with one; however, I will never know if it was that one night of getting totally messed up that affected my son or was it something else. The good news is that he quickly caught up to his brother. They are a year old and very close in size. His gross motor development is lagging when compared to other babies his age. Now that they are also weaned from the boob, I can have the occasional joint without fear, but this is a guilt I will carry the rest of my life. Please, if you are trying to have a baby, put your habit on hold. It just ain't about you anymore. Good luck and many blessings to you. |
