Well, since it's a parakeet teach it to say "Yo, pass that shit man!"

Just kidding. Unless it's flying around your house freely, don't give it weed. Would you want to be trapped in a cage if you were high?

Also, birds aren't that stupid. Crows have lately been noted using sticks just the same as chimpanzees to get grubs out of logs. They even improve upon their stick designs and pass on these sticks to later generations of crows! Check out this article!

When was the last time you got a "contact buzz", really?

All you'd be doing is blowing smoke in it's face and make it hate you and want to bite you.

Which it probably already does, most parakeets I've ever met weren't the friendliest of birds, a tad bit on the evil side.

I've got a fabulous idea, instead of getting the parakeet high, save that weed for the fourth of July. You know you'll want some extra to smoke then.

Let the birdie be.

I have to advise against getting a bird high. Like fuzzyninja said, it probably wouldn't like being trapped in a cage while stoned, but even if it flies freely around the house, birds don't usually fly very well in an enclosed space and I doubt that would be helped by being high. Better safe than sorry, you don't want your new bird to fly into a window and die.

Smoke probably isn't good for birds in the first place. A friend of mine who is a vet met my new puppy the other day, and I wasn't about to get him high or anything, but she did say that weed is toxic for him. I don't know if it is bad for birds, but why would you want to?

I'd like to know how she got that information. Marijuana has never killed anyone. In one study (and I'm sure in many others) rats they used in labs didn't die and they were given very extreme doses. And simply blowing an exhaled rip would not be very potent.

I was wondering that, too. I'll ask her about it. I had thought that it would chemically affect dogs is a similar way it affects humans, and it isn't toxic to us, so I don't know. I was assuming she didn't mean it would kill him. We're around stuff that's toxic to us all the time and it doesn't kill us unless in a much higher dose than we take in, it just isn't good for our systems. I'm curious, too, so I'll look into it.

i don't see how it would be a waste necessarily, since he's blowing his exhaled hit into the bird's cage, but i do see how it would be just plain mean to blow a bunch of smoke into the bird's face...

well, that first theory could possibly be it.. i mean, chocolate is toxic to dogs but not humans. i'm interested to know.

:edit: googled 'marijuana dogs toxic' and found some links... it is a poisonous plant for dogs, and apparently if they eat it, it causes vomiting and increased heartrate and nervous system depression, although it's not necessarily fatal

http://www.risingwoods.org/OURFAMILY...odsfordogs.htm
http://www.ttlntl.co.uk/2/Health/poisonplants.htm
http://www.vet.purdue.edu/depts/addl/toxic/plant35.htm < yay west lafayette rep right here this link is also a very good source for 'getting animals high' posts, it also gives the effects on the animal's body from inhaling smoke; THC is toxic for all animals. check this out, OP.

I wouldn't suggest blazin with a bird, especially one of that size. . . My sister has two parakeets and i smoked a joint with them. . . And i noticed Clouds ( the Male of the two ) starting to just close his eyes and his breathing patterns were just unstable going from slow to heavy. . . & later i noticed a small bloody spot just above his beak ( i'm guessing it was tripping him out & making his heart pump too much blood ) So yeah just like the above dude said, not all animals like it so only if they do it purposely, it's pretty cruel to force a mild alternating drug onto such a small animal.
