Yes it sounds OK, but it tastes like crap. Taste is much more important than sound in food.
Try it for your self if you have never had it, but i dont even see why places sell them anymore everyone and their mother hates them.

well i HATE friut cake, it was first cooked by the devil

it is gross, and most of the time is rock hard because its been the same one givin from one person to another, its kinda a joke in our family, we always pass it of to another part of our extended family, thing is like a brick now nobody wanted it then nobody wants it now

we also do that with an old soap bar that almost looks like a friut cake, they might have cut it out and called it a soap bar, i should check next time i see it

i wouldnt eat it even if i had smoked an ounce and had no money or food to eat

and what the fuck is in a friut cake, i never have figured it out,

Perhaps one's opinion of fruitcake depends on one's first exposure to it. The old lady that lived behind us used to give us one every year at xmas time. That fruitcake was nasty. Come to think of it, so was she. Now, I know that's mean, but you didn't know her. She was mean and nasty. Just like her fruitcake.

That being said, the way DP described his grandmother's fruitcake, steeped in alcohol, made me actually think about trying it

...that the aversion for some might be with the fruit itself! There's nothing all that nasty with the actual cake part IMO...but the fruit is of the 'candied' variety. It's a bit "al dente"...or harder than biting into fresh fruit, and much sweeter.



I'm not sure I've ever had a fruitcake steeped in alcohol.
It's funny, but the ones I think I've eaten over the years HAVE been the crap-cakes...but I still like them. But NOW I think I'd really like to try one of the booze-soaked ones!
Just hope it doesn't mess with my meds!

ya i might try one soaked in brandy or something but thats about it, maybe the recipe above, with extra brandy maybe a bottle or two

no point in not giving it another try its been a few years, but it still makes me gag, but who know i may like it now, probably not

Ewww I hate candied fruit. Especially cherry. It always reminds me of Tylenol, due to chugging nasty ass fake cherry flavored Tylenol as a kid because I hated pills.

So now I'm leaning towards...no fruitcake...I still want to try one though. One that would be considered "good" by fruitcake standards.

I haven't had one since I was kid, and I don't remember liking it too much.

As Darque said though, I probably never had a good one, with rum or anything.

Not against to keep trying, if I run across one, just haven't seen one for some years.
