Hey guys, I'm writing an article in my school paper about marijuana (I'm in highschool) and am trying to get as many inputs on this as I can. Will u help me out by posting what drove u to start in the first place, and what makes u keep coming back?(u can include the obvious, but plz don't b afraid to elaborate, I'm looking for all the info I can get)

I started because I knew that if I smoke weed, I'll become an addict and pawn all my belongs for the next 'fix'.

Only joking.

I started on self exploration I believe. At the time, it was also really exciting. Something that is named illegal, and is supposedly very bad for you. Something that is taboo, such as... Purchasing a Rated R movie and you know it has boobs in it, even though your underage with the fear of being caught, you still get a certain rush from it. I was fairly young and really just loved the effects of being high. I loved the sound of music, and the art I pushed out through the led of my pencil.

I started, way back in late 1972, or early '73, at a concert. I was in the Marines and some of us went to go see the Edgar Winter Group, also on the bill that nite was Joe Walsh w/Barnstorm, and Black Oak Arkansas.
It was standing-room only and i was over by the left side of the stage, about 20 or 30 feet from the speaker array. Standing there, and just enjoying the music, when this big ol' country boy (think bib-overalls, t-shirt, and blue bandanna around his neck) pulled out a huge joint. It was something else, imagine, if you will, a standard sheet of 8 1/2" by 11" notebook paper, and enuff reefer to fill it up. Must have been at least a 3-finger lid, or so, in it.
That's what we called an ounce, back in them days. They always weighed about an ounce, but were referred to as a 3 or 4 finger "lid", sometimes ya got lucky, and even got a 5 finger lid. Back then it was all fluffy, the more fluff, the better. It wasn't all compacted, like ya get today. Guess how much i used to pay for a lid ?? Anywhere from 10 to 20 dollars. The price was usually based on how many fingers it was, and the quality of it. The best was like a 3-finger lid for 20 bux.
Anyway, he lit that sucker, and passed it over to me, it was the very first time i ever toked up. Needless to say, i don't remember all the details of that concert, but i certainly remember having a great time.
Thanks for helping me to relive some good memories. I miss those days.

I dont know why I started. All my life I had heard the horrible effects of it But I felt I should make that decision for myself. I mean I had seen stoner movies like half-baked and thought, well they seem ok ( even though its a movie). Smoked it. And was like. Whats the big deal? This stuff is great. Everyone should try it

I first started on exploration and then soon after I did hours of research which all began from yours truly(www.marijuana.com), I saw that it was widely used for many many lots and many years ago and everything that hemp can be used for as well.

I then started to smoke and then meditate, it has really help shape my outlook on life and to be a better person. Ever sense the sweet herb my love for nature and all that goes with it grows everyday.

I love weed and will smoke till the day I die,and vape and eat some brownies too

my best friend smoked weed a couple times and asked me if i wanted to try it. she broke into her mom's safe and stole a couple roaches (her mom keeps a tin), rolled a tinfoil bowl and we smoked them. but i started i guess because my friend said she liked it and it made me wanna try it. she didn't really pressure me or anything.

All my life i had always been a good boy, always followed the rules, got good grades got along with my parents (still do and have a great relationship with them). I had never wanted to smoke weed (or drink alcohol for that matter). My girlfriend of about 2 years had just broken up with me when i was 19 years old (in college) and i had been progressively curious about weed but had never tried it because i knew she wouldnt want me to. Well, i was hanging out with some very close friends of mine and they went outside to smoke a bowl. Another friend of mine (travis 22) was with us who had never smoked before either.

well they started passing the bowl around and all of a sudden he held out his hand and was like "theres a first time for everything" he took a hit and coughed a little and then went to pass it to the person on my left and it just hit me to reach out my hand for it as well. "hey there's a first time for everything" i still enjoy it to this day (month and a half from my 21st birthday). i drink occasionally but never really get drunk and still make decent grades.

it's something that i love to do and that i think everybody else should have the right to do.

I was curious as to what it was like. It's used so much in my city that it was always around me growing up, but my older brother who was into marijuana and some OTs never toked with me.. I had tried alcohol when I turned 13 and didn't enjoy the nauseating affects or the blurry state of altered mind... I didn't try marijuana until I was 17 but I haven't looked back I am glad that I waited until I was a bit older. And now my bro and I toke together all the time
