It just strikes me as a bit odd... "oh you just killed that person. now we're gonna fine you. muah ah ... no wait, too lax. We'll put you in jail! Nah. Nah. Let's kill you."

we should be asking that question all the time. Mistakes will happen either way and we have to do what we can to prevent them, but I don't think that should be a huge factor in our decisions, because if we're willing to put somebody in jail FOR LIFE (which is in my opinion just as bad, just less scary to think about) then we should be just as prepared to kill 'em.

Of course, like I said, I don't support capital punishment, for different reasons.

I'm sorry, did I miss the part where you can unkill someone in the same way you can let them out of jail?

I voted no. I'm the kind of person who believes in little thing called proportional punishment and there's really no other way to ensure a punishment which is equal to the crime than punishing the perpetrator by perpetrating the same crime against him. Unfortunately, this is one of those cases where you can't really pull that off since anything you do to a pervert will probably end up being pleasurable to him.
That's a sad thing but I still don't think anyone should die for molestation; perhaps our judicial system does them justice when they're put in prison and raped in the shower by large men day after day. That's a far worse punishment than lethal injection in my opinion. This is a real tough one Vicki. Nicely done!

Oh you can be 100% certain on some cases. Jeffery Dalmer and Ted Bundy are a couple of cases that come to mind. The Son of Sam killings are another. These people ADMITTED to doing it. When the cops show up and you're covered in blood and are stabbing the victim as they approach you and the crime scene then yes, you can be 100% certain. Jack Ruby killed Oswald. The whole world saw that. You had 5 billion eye witnesses.

You can be 100% certain in some cases, yes. But where do you draw the line?

Who as an eye witness do you trust? An officer? An ex-officer? An officer with a history of alcoholism? An off-duty officer? A city council member? With a history of alcoholism?

The problems aren't necessarily that of never being 100% certain, but of where you draw the line of "certain enough."

What type of footage do you trust? Video footage can easily be edited (you don't think that the white house was blown up in ID4 in real life, do you?).

My point is, no matter what, I'll never be certain enough to take a persons life. Period.

There are plenty of times when I've wanted to kill someone. But wanting something does not make justification for it.
