| I just found out about this new OS in development called LindowsOS This OS is striving to achieve somthing that hasnt been done before. Which is to create an OS that allows you to run both windows and linux applications on the same OS. If they are able to do what they say they can then this could put a huge dent in Microsofts sales as I know id be switching over as long as it still has alot of linux elements, and can run 98% of all windows apps. However this OS isnt striving for linux server elements because a standard linux distro would be better anyways however more for a desktop enviroment but im assuming it will have alot of the linux features. http://lindowsOS.com for more info On another note, for everyone that likes KDE or GNOME linux interfaces I would also like to point out this newer Interface called black box the eye candy is remarkable, it has a bunch of good features you cant find on KDE or GNOME, and its much faster than either of the other choices. more info @ http://blackbox.alug.org/ also check out some differnt themes @ http://bb.themes.org check out that 3rd theme on the list its damn tight. | i vote for windows xp cause it does alot of stuff automatically for u. like loading drivers and recognizing new hardware and what not. the only bad thing is that i have some real old school games such as Sam and Max: Hit The Road, Day of the Tentacle, The Dig, Full Throtle, and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (all old Lucas Arts games), and XP can't run them, even with the command thing and setting it to be compatible with win 95. ![]() |

| I dont really know since all the OS's that i meddled with where winblows and mac (mac is waaay better than winblows, the reason iam not on a mac is because they are too expensive and too limited for my tastes). Since iam not getting a mac anytime soon and dont feel like dishing money out for another comp (i biult the one i got now and at a descent price) Iam looking into getting a descent n00bie Linux distribution and wondering which one to get. And,i heard there is a linux application that can run winblows software,is this true and whats the name of it?

| The application your talking about is called WINE, but from my expireance (sp?) it dont work very well 4 me ![]() i dont know what the actually website adresse of WINE is, but u could do a search 4 it on download.com and as for disrtobutions go, thats totaly your decision as to wich distro u wanna install (although, i have heard mandrake is good for beginers) i think the website adresse is: www.mandrake-linux.com (but if its not, do a search for mandrake at download.com under the linux section, that gores the same for WINE) hope that helped

| I would accually recomend getting slackware. Ive heard some people say mandrakes is good for a beginer because of its unique ablity to be installed into the win32 fat partition. However I say if your going to get linux get the best, no sence in having to learn somthing twice. |
