So I went through the phone book in search of a computer place that would duel boot both Linux, and xppro on the same system. Well... to make a long story short. The Moron Tech came over and installed both operating systems on the same computer.(xppro$Linux) everything was going great. until it came time to the Linux part. The tech was here for ‘Hours, trying to get Linux connected to the internet. They downloaded just about every Modem driver off the internet. However, none of them would work. So finally, they gave up. They suggested that I find a Linux community and ask around for assistance. They went on to say it would not be difficult to find the appropriate drivers for the http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/support.htm . Therefore, I went to a few communities’ that help the Linux Noobs. I and asked if they knew of a place, website, anywhere. that would have the correct drivers. However, they gave me the same links that I tried using before and none of them worked. So I said, fudge it. Went to Office Depot and asked if they had a Modem that would support both Operating systems. The sales person said they did not have any. And went on to say that the reason I’m having such a hard time getting Linux connected to the internet is because Nobody uses it and therefore nobody wants to waste there time making a driver for a OS that no one uses… another waste of time… Now, I can see if My computer was some pice of junk, however that is not the case. This is a top of the line PC >Cheek out the above stats^ I have done everything humanly possible. Nothing works. Linux will not connect to the internet. What is wrong with these people? Why can’t they just simply make a driver that would allow users to simply place the download in a folder and get on with the program? Instead, they expect you to download junk drivers of the net, and if they do not work, you practically have to rewrite the whole driver script and replace this with that, and that with this. Quote: from the book Linux Kiss The Blue Screen Of Death Hello Again- Oppps... Kiss the Blue Screen Of Death Goodbye: Linux is a very user-friendly operating system. Ha! Ha! Ha! Yeah, Right! |

If you dont use the ethernet card, see if you can set it up to use it. Then just set up your computer to use eth0 to connect. | |

| Well, its is true that linux isn't the most user friendly OS out there, but it hardly sucks lol. But cs88 is right, the sales guy has no clue what he is talking about. Just get a modem which connects to your computer though ethernet and you will be fine as long as your nic card is supported and nearly all nic cards are supported so it shouldnt be a problem. The one the thing that you should do however, is take a good look at your reasons for switching to linux and make sure that they are sound. Anyone who is considering trying linux for the first time should do it, and view it only has an educational experience. There is a learning curve to linux and you need to time your time to learn it, good luck Rugbee.

| I guess it depends on the skill level of the user as to how "friendly" Linux will be I used to have problems back in the day with drivers and the modem, but alas none anymore...
