Registry cleaner
I was browsing the internet in hopes of learning how to safely use a registry cleaner, After reading a few night mare stories from people who had messed up their computer by deleting the wrong strings, I determined that cleaning the registry, manually would be to risky so I downloaded and purchased This Registry editor.>> http://www. What is everybody’s opinion as regards to Reg cleaners, are they junk or do they really help computers to run smoothly. ( If you want to view the web cleaner type the addy into your browser because I’m not sure if this is a commercial link

I use Norton Systemworks 2004, it comes with a nice registry cleaner. They're a good idea, and can fix errors you may or may not be seeing.

I also have Norton System works, never noticed a Reg cleaner. Everything but lol
The Reg cleaner dose make the computer run smoother, especially at start up. I know that there are many techs that type Reg edit in the run command to edit their registry, most of them would probably suggest that a reg cleaner is a waste of money. but my computer skills are not all that great, and I’d hate to make a mistake and mess up my system because I was to cheap to purchase a Reg cleaner.

Yes, I must agree that it is a waste of money (sorry but it is). If you want random spy/ad ware out of your registry you can use Ad-aware (free). And if you want a faster startup go start -> run and enter 'msconfig'. In msconfig go to the 'startup' tabs and remove anything you dont need, also goto the servies tab (check hide microsoft services) and uncheck anything there that you dont need.

I don't know if thoese tools you mentioned effect different keys, but I remeber that this used to work well for me back when I was on windows.

I wouldn't pay for just a registry cleaning program, but systemworks has all sorts of useful tools (antivirus, for example) including a registry cleaner. Not that I actually paid for systemworks... but I would... in theory.

I knew that UN checking unused items under (Start Up/ Msconfig was an efficient way to speed up performance of general applications, however I did not know that disabling stuff under the Service Tab would also help speed things up. I had always been afraid to mess with anything else Other then Ms Config lol in fear that I would somehow disable an important windows component and ruin the computer, again. Lol …
…… Therefore, if I were to go to Msconfig, then hit the Service Tab, disable, and uncheck hide Microsoft Hide Microsoft Services, would that not stop automatic updates or any other important windows Applications, just want to get a double cheek before I do it lol
