I thought the first gen iPhone was decent if you take into consideration how advanced the web browser was. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it didn't support MMS (which most phones do). I don't even think the new release is going to support MMS which really sucks.

I'm really interested to see what "applications" they are going to have in this new "App Store" too seeing as there are already a large variety of Web Apps available.

I think we'll be totally stoked.
Analogous to the computer world -
It won't be as expansive by far as what's available for PC users given Microsoft's open architecture but it should be a leaps and bounds more plentiful than the idiocy of Apple's closed doors.

A solid hybrid I expect......

That's rather uncharitable don't you think?
You may not like it (and it does have it's issues) but overall I'd call it a beautiful piece of technology,
one that has raised the bar for everyone else in the game.

That said and assuming you really mean what you said,
then what are the factors that, in your mind, made this little beauty into a beast?

I suppose it was uncharitable.. and I was exaggerating a bit.
I agree that it's a beautiful piece of technology, it really is. I just heard so much from customers about the problems with it that I would never buy one.. I just hope they worked out the kinks, is all

I see.
Well, just for the record I've had mine for just under a year and absolutely love it.
It's a solid phone, superb texting platform, very good e-mail (I like my Blackberry better in this regard, but then Blackberry's e-mail is superb), wonderfully versatile music based system and makes Internet access a dream come true.
Will round 2 be better? Absolutely. Then so was XP better than '98.

Batten down the hatches girl or I'll come knockin' at your door so you can hold and play with it yourself...

Oh definitely there are things that plague me.
And they revolve mostly around it as a phone. The speaker can't put out enough volume. We should want to dial down the volume rather than have it maxed and still not nearly high enough.
However, there's no end to people's creativity eh? Some quasi genius decided to take a sewing needle and poke holes in the speaker to enable amplification.
And it's a good fix - but still it's a jury rig.

Yea, the new one runs 3G but what about battery life? And wi-fi is all over the place and expanding day by day. When I use wi-fi it's virtually as fast as my computer.
Bottom line? If I lost mine, yes, I would buy another one in a heartbeat...

I've heard about the problem with the volume, but I didn't know that if you poked a hole it would amplify it and to answer your question about battery life. From what I've heard it is supposed to have 10 hours on 2G, 10 hours on 3G, 7 hours of video playback and 24 hours of audio playback.
