Exclamation Can you buy a phone that's meant for a different cell phone service but still use it?

Alright I posted a thread earlier about which cell phone company I should stick with but I think we've decided to stick with the company we have now because its a better value.

But
I really want the Blackjack II that seems to be in use only with AT&T. And i have T-Mobile.
Is there a way that I can purchase the Blackjack II and still stay with T-Mobile?

Because ive tried just putting my SIM card into like a verizon phone nd such and it doesnt work, different programming i guess. But I know people who have phones from different companys and still use them.

But how?

Thanks,
Crim

Yes you can unlock it. Simply do a search on the net with keywords to find out how.
The bigger question is why would you want one in the first place.
Every single person I know who has one was jacked to get it and then disappointed when they did.
Me thinks u can do better...

You can get it unlocked.. but you can only have the phone on a network that it's compatible with. For example, AT&T has GSM phone technology.. so the Blackjack they sell is a GSM phone. It can be only used on a GSM network. I am not sure what technology T-mobile has.

As for the Blackjack.. do you know anyone who has one? Have you tried it out? I've tried one before and I didn't care at all for it. I found it really awkward in my hand.

I did a search for unlocking the blackjack for t-mobile and I guess T-Mobile and AT&T are some of the only providers using GSM. Verizon uses the other kind. So I guess that's good luck for me? Lol. And as for the phone, no i have never used one but i plan on looking at some more reviews and maybe getting my hands on one at the store and fiddling around with it.

phonescoop.com is a great site for user reviews.. definitely try it out before you buy. It's an expensive purchase!
Also - should you find yourself unable to find the unlock code online, you'd need to get it from AT&T.. and they will only let you have the unlock code (it's called a "subsidy unlock code") if you've been in service with them for 3 months. That's how it was when I worked for them about a year or two ago. I am pretty sure it's still the policy.
