Default my Cursor is tweakin' out. Bad?

Right
Well
I've noticed that sometimes my cursor just kinda starts to...
move on it's own
The mouse isnt being moved at all. But my cursor will kinda jitter and move usually left or right but sometimes up or down.

A lcouple years ago, when i used to play a PC game called Starcraft, was the first time I experienced this happen. I told one of my buddies about it and they said someone was trying to hack my computer and that i should press a combination of buttons (dont remember what that combo was) and that it would prevent them from hacking and stop the cursor from moving.
Is this true? IMO I dont think the hacker thing is true at all. But i've got no idea.

And should I be worrying when this happens? It usually only lasts about 3-5 seconds. And is there a way to prevent it when it does happen? I usually just move my mouse around and it'll go away but i dont like that eerieness of my cursor moving on its own

Thanks,
Crim

haha i doubt that a key combination would prevent a 'hacker' from getting at your computer...

do you have a ball or optical mouse?

if your mouse uses balls (hehe) you can try cleaning the rollers that contact the ball.

if your mouse is optical (LED or laser), you could try a different mouse pad. sometimes, if the pattern is wierd, the mouse might think it's moving when it really isn't.

have you seen if this happens with a different mouse?

just to cover all of the bases, there is a product out there that automatically jiggles the mouse. (wiebetech.com/products/MouseJiggler.php) check to see if there's anything that looks like that plugged into your computer

I've had that happen off and on with a couple of computers.
I found that it seemed to happen when the computer was running low on system resources.
Try 'hard booting' as well as running one or more programs that clear cache etc..
A popular one I like and have used for years is CCleaner - "CCleaner.com

Good luck...

Ive used 3 mouses, all which are optical/LED. and it's happened on every single one. and i dont use a mousepad because they're optical. i just leave it on my desk. which is wooden.

The wood grain is probably what's doing it. Get yourself a mousepad, they're only like $5.

Check where the laser comes out (assuming you have a laser mouse)... there may be dust/hair.

Someone suggested a mousepad. If you use an optical mouse, get a solid color one, preferrably a dark color. No pictures, logos or pretty desgins.
The PMS from 3M (precision mousing surfaces) are nice, but not necessary.

If you have a ball mouse, clean the damn thing. Clean the rollers as well as the ball & socket. Use something to scrape the gunk off the rollers, as canned air isn't going to cut it usually. I use a small screwdriver to clean the rollers, then blow out the residue with canned air.

If you have a wireless mouse, try changing the matteries and/or finding a different channelk or frequency (for RF or bluetooth units). Microwaves, cordless phones, wifi & cellphones could possibly be interfering.

No. You got your chain yanked.

What?

In the past, optical mice have often hiccupped when used on surfaces such as wood-grain desktops. The problem is that the variance in the pattern of the surface can cause interference with the laser reflection and detection – optical mice work by recognizing the laser as it is reflected from the mousing surface back into the mouse.
