Default Mac recommendations?
My son is about to buy a Mac and is trying to decide between a MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.
He is a student so it seems that the MacBook is his best bet.

Any comments, recommendations, thoughts about configuration etc.?

I am no fan of Macs but I have heard many negative reviews on the Macbook Air. It seems all too thin and incredibly fragile. One slip up and you can call it a day. Not sure about the others though so hopefully someone else has some more knowledge.

Most likely the MacBook is the best bet. I have the MacBook Pro only because I have like 50 gigs worth of music...

It would be helpful if we knew more about what he was using it for, Sterbo.

It's like saying "I'd like to buy my son a honda."

Well, you've eliminated the ridgeline (Mac Pro), CR-V (Mac Mini), and minivan (iMac), but we still don't know if you want the motorcycle (Macbook Air), Civic (Macbook) or Accord (Macbook Pro).

So, do you want to haul stuff, get good gas mileage or what? And, is price an issue for consideration (are you trying not to spend a lot)

What can I say, I like analogies.

Edit: And, in that vein... I'm curious as to what criteria most of the people in this thread are using to make their recommendations, considering sterbo didn't say what his son was studying...

I got the Mac Book Pro two days before they made the deal were you can get the free ipod touch... i was so pissed... But anyways... i really recommend the Mac Book Pro, it can take anything you throw at it and do almost everything you want it to (It cant get you high)

I would go for the MacBook. It's cheaper and more portable. I currently use a MacBook Pro but only because I am a photographer.

Trust me, you don't wanna lug a MBP around in your backpack, it's quite cumbersome!
