Linux may well be faster, but it just is too problematic to configure properly if you want a graphical user interface like Windows and no quirks, like lack of internet connection sharing or Glide libraries.

There just isn't enough development for it, otherwise Linux would kick all IMO.

Default OS Type

although im not using it currently, i enjoy:

OpenBSD

check it out at http://www.openbsd.com/

it is sort of linux-like, but has many features that do not pertain to the general linux OS.

I am a big fan of MacOS, and have been a Mac User for 12 years. However my current system is a windows machine, I plan to move mac the the Mac when I earn higher salary.

As a home user, I prefer a Windows platform, I usually run a 98 machine on a laptop.

My OS of choice for most things is Solaris, but I know that most users don't have access to a Sun Box...

In my opinion, each OS has its plusses and minuses. Use the right tool for the job.....

Slackware linux in my oppion is the best. Ive been meaning to check out FreeBSD and OpenBSD though. Win 2000 is good too(well as good as you can get for MS), that is if you like games and other windows softwares, however Windows XP looks like theres too much spyware for my liking.

I'm a mac zealot, and been using them as my desktop for awhile now. For servers and production boxes though, FreeBSD is my favourite OS. Gotta love BSD, and the freebsd community is a great bunch of people.

Default Personaly.....

I think winXP is all hype
just a new flashy toy from M$, just as bug ridden as all there other OS's

it may look good, but it really aint that great.
in terms of stability, win2k is just as stable as winXP
