I've used Sony Mavicas and I really find them to be a pain. They're bulky, completely relying on floppys and no internal memory, and picture taking is just as trial-and-error as any other camera, if not more. Floppys have gone the way of ancient technology. They won't hold more than a dozen pictures, and they're the biggest and most unreliable form of memory out there. You need to carry a lot of floppys around if you plan to do a lot of photo taking. I've lost more data on floppys than any other removable media. I wouldn't recommend a Mavica unless you didn't have a USB connection on your computer.

Photo enhancements? I have all the best stuff, Jasc PSP 8 and Adobe Photoshop 7. I haven't had to do retouching to any of the pictures taken yet by either camera, and my parents took a lot of photos when they went on their cruise in the Caribbean. Very nice...though I would edit out that annoying timestamp.

As far as the more current media cards, CompactFlash is the most economical, Secure Digital is the smallest, and memory sticks fall somewhere in the middle. The Kodak models I mentioned use Secure Digital and they have their own internal memory.
