I don't have an updated antivirus. I need to go buy a new one from the store. I was going to download avg 7.0 but my comp won't let me, I think it has to do with a bot or virus that I can't get rid of. I downloaded spybot s&d which eliminated a lot of bots. I have this thing right, everytime I search with google, PerfectNav pops up with sh1t in the background. Or it will say that the page is unavailable. Is this a bot or what, and how can I get rid of it. Also, what't the best antivirus that you can buy in stores?

What happens when you try to download AVG? Saying "it won't let me" isn't very descriptive, you are going to have to be more specific. Anyways, don't buy antivirus software, that stuff is almost always bloated and free solutions work just as well. If you can't dl the free ones then fix the problem, don't go and by some crappy norton anti-virus or anything like that.

As for the PerfectNav pops at google its spyware. If you ran spybot and it is still hanging around then try doing a "hijack this" log, which you can get from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html. Then cut and paste the log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showforum=30 and someone will gladly go though it and tell you any spyware programs that are still hanging around and how to eliminate them, that should get rid of your the PerfectNav pops.

Thanks for the help. But there is still a problem. This is a better way of putting it. When I click links like yours, PerfectNav will come up immediately. It will say site unavailable, and this only happens with antivirus sites. I cannot get to a site to get rid of it at all. It's a horrible bot. I need someone that knows where to go in your actuall computer and remove it manually. I ran a virus scan and I have 4 viruses too. I'm really getting pwned here. I need a wizard to blick this sh1t away lol.

ok get your windows disk ready

exit windows to your ms-dos prompt

type FORMAT C:

type Y

and Y again (if another question comes up lol)

then reboot and reinstall your windows

oh if you ahve any extra harddrives (D:, G whatever FORMAT them first before the C drive

its always best to completely format your comptuer when you have these problems

next after clean windows install do a full scandisk (or CHKDISK in MSDOS) to make sure there are no bad sectors on your harddrives (scandisk can repair them). next get Norton Internet Security and Norton Systemworks

I recommend against SystemWorks. It completely revises your drive architecture and if you decide that you don't like it or it doesn't work, wiping the computer is harder and no built-in utility will work. It ends up making things more difficult.

Absolutely do not do that unless you are sure it's the only way. Please call your computer's tech support number if you are going to format your hard drive. You have to realize that when you format, everything is gone. All your **** is completely gone. Try calling some antivirus sites or sign up at experts-exchange.com. They have some wizards who can help you. It costs like 10 bucks for one month, so it's not too bad.

Well, I would actually recomend formatting, its good to format everyone once in a while, epecially if you have gotten a few viruses. Think of it has spring cleaning, you get rid of all the crap you don't need, and all of the files that might be corupted on your system and get to start over fresh, I do it every year and a half or so. Just back up alll of your data first. However since you don't have the restore disk or the windows disk, I would do is call up your PC manufacuture to see about getting a replacement restore disk.
