Aight...I got a lite-on DVD-RW/CD-RW combo drive...but I'm not sure what kind of media I ought to buy for it...I know that there are two formats of DVD burners, and I *think* I can use DVD+R...But im not sure. Anyone have any info?

Also, what programs does anyone here use to copy DVDs? My copy of American Pie needs to be copied because it's in pretty bad shape...I heard that before DVDxCopy got banned it was a good program...anyone?

there's 2 formats of dvd; -R and +R. +R is more compatible with standalone dvd players, but if your dvd player is a ps2 or xbox, -R is the way to go.

as for backing up your dvd's, i used to use dvdxcopy, but have recently come across a much better program called DVDShrink. this program is not only small, free and easy to use, but produces great quality backups.

it will copy and decrypt the VOBs to your hard drive, and burn it all. you can also easily rip out things you wouldnt need (like french or spanish audio tracks). oh yeah, u need nero installed on your computer to. it uses nero to burn inside dvdshrink.

Couple problems with this... One, -R is compatible with just as many, if not more stand alone DVD players. Two, unless you have a dual format DVD burner, you don't choose media based on what your player can play, you choose based on what your burner can burn!

DaDornta, your Lite-On uses DVD+R like you thought, so that's what you should buy.

And I definately agree with downloading DVD Shrink, it's all I use.
