Default Im gonna take over the world!

I wouldnt consider my self a hacker, per say, but I like to research computers and learn about them. I used to go to the sites where you can hack thier site legally. I was alright at it.

Do you mean "hacker" as in "security breaker", as in the Jargon File definition of "hacker", or as in footbagger?

If I meant hacky sack player I wouldn't have posted it in the Techy forums. I mean the computer term of hacker.

so that still leaves two options.

hacker as in "security breaker" or hacker as in "one who likes to play with things,
particularly computers, to make them do cool stuff"?

Also, can the attitude. He asked you a perfectly legitimate question.

edit: ha i forgot to reply to your original question.

I've dabbled in hacking before, but right now i'm too busy with school and
hanging out with other people for a change.

The 2 options are virtually the same thing. I know you all know what a hacker is. 2600, Defcon, wardialing. That kind of hacker.

Also, there was no attitude there. His question wasn't legitimate because I wouldn't make a post about playing hacky sack in a tech forum. All I said was exactly that. No attitude so you can can your attitude.

Dudes, just... chill. (I assume you're both dudes) The hackey sack option was meant as a joke, although if they ever invent a computer you can hack like a hackey sack and still get it to work, I'll definitely want one.

I am not a (security) hacker, or a "plays with computers" hacker either for that matter (though I'm trying on that one). I did go through a transient 5kr1pt k1dd13 phase (rootkits, netbus, etc.) several years ago, when I was new to the internet. Didn't really learn anything, though.

I found a cool feature in an old version of Internet Exploder once. You typed (note: I previewed this, there should be no underscore there-->) "about:<html code here>" in the address bar or as a link, and the resulting page was the html code between <HTML> and </HTML> tags. You could also put more code in a link within that code if you coded it in ascii (e.g. %20 for space, %2E for a period, etc.), so an entire website (sans binaries like images) could be embedded in a single link. Sadly for me, Microsoft removed this feature from later versions of its browser. I don't know if this counts as a "hack" (in either sense) or not, but I thought it was pretty cool.

The same can be done using javascript in the address bar. For example (without the underscores):

javascript:document.write("<b>hello!");

would work. Anything that can be done in javascript can also be done in the address bar. Once during my IT class when I was bored, I wrote a script to approximate pi and show the result as an alert(), that was completely written in the address bar.

Yeah and im Chevy Chase.

Your own question isnt legitimate to begin with. Theres no way a discussion on computer hacking is going to make it past the mods, they try to divert people from their boards from discussing other crimes in case you cant tell, so i hardly believe they are going to turn a blind eye to a thread like this.

And also on the topic of things that aren't legitimate your signature isnt legitimate either. Even if you are typing the lyrics to the Sublime cover that song is not theirs, its Bob Marleys and putting Sublime at the end of your signature is giving them credit for a song that is not theirs and was in no way written or produced by them. Thats like me signing a Picasso right over his name and acting like it was mine all along.

Lighten up, light some buds and stop being a jerk to people on here.

Hacking it self isn't a crime, it's only a crime if you use it to do something illegal. Any network administrator who doesn't know how to hack is basically incompetent in my book. you can't secure a network if you don't know how to break into it. Hacking on test computers and running tools that could be considered "hacker tools" against them to test for vulnerabilities is a fundamental task that nearly all system administrators should be doing. Learning about secuirty is completely fine in my book, and I think it should be encouraged. So far I haven't seen anything that could be considered disscussing illegal topics, however manny's post came close, but I still don't quite think that he made it.

You going to be hanging around Cleric? It's good to see that you're back .
