Are any of you going to the CPL this winter?

I go every year and it is quite a fun tournement. I used to play top-american counter-strike until about 6 months ago when my team died after our main sponsor (www.velocitymicro.com) dropped us .... It is quite a fun experience earning money and free equipment to play a computer game for 5-6 hours a day. Im definately out of that phase and have since quit cs, I just go for the enviroment and to catch up with internet buddies in real life..

If you are unaware of this computer gaming tournement in Dallas, Texas it is a bi-annual event in which teams from: most notibly(sp?) Sweden, USA and many teams from Canada, UK, Germany, France, Austrailia, New Zealand, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Japan, China, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Iceland, Russia. (Im sure im leaving out quite a few) Many teams from these countries make the trip to Dallas twice a year, usually paid for by their sponsors, which support them with Hardware, Salaries, atleast 3 teams live together at this current time--so ineffect even housing is paid for. Teams compete in (4) games during the Summer, CS, Halo, COD, PainKiller. This winter it will be (2) games, CS and Doom3. The winner of the cs tourney wins 50000$ and 2nd place wins 25000 and so on. The counter-strike tournement is a 100000$ Tournement and in the past has actually reached 200K. Next year the CPL is launching a 1 MILLION USD World Tour... PS. The sponsor booths and raffles are by far what makes the event the top event in the world. Intel and Nvidia and Hitatchi, their main sponsors, treat them very well and put alot of time and money into this tournement.

I am in no way affiliated with the CPL only trying to spread the word and maybe burn a bowl or two with some of you this winter. Sorry if the two links I posted are against the posting guidelines and DP feel free to remove them if you infact feel they are breaking a rule.

this is not true.

only 2 teams in the world give there players salaries (3 if you include #complexity)

those two teams are SK (www.schroet.com , the most sucessful european team) and Team3D (www.team3d.net , the most sucessful american team)

and most teams go to the cpl out of their own pockets. or partially payed for by sponsors

very few teams get a full sponsorship to cpl.

3 teams live together for free?

the only one that i knew of was #NoA (www.teamnoa.net)
and that was only for the summer


the only other team that i knew was living together was #United5 (www.united5.net) , and they pay for that themselfs.

They may not compare to SK, 3D, 4K, Complexity's salaries but they are infact salaries.

HARDLY Any of the teams that are there to really compete are paying out of pocket, the only top team paying out of pocket I can recently recall was EYE, who is currently unsponsored. Hardware is obviously a given, most respective sponsors like to boast their products, myself knowning this, receiving my videocard and soundcard to very generous sponsors.

Noa only lived together for summer.

none of those teams get salaries except col, sk, 3d , that mean anything..
and i dont think you can consider 1-2K a year IF that as a salary for those other teams, if they even get one

most of the teams outside of north american pay out of pockets..

and most of the teams in america get sponsors to pay what? 1k for gas and a hotel for a week? hardly sponsored..

teams outside of america pay out of their own pocket... you think some random team from peru is gonna land a major sponsor that is gonna give them 10K to attend cpl? i think not.

only major teams get that kind of sponsorship

Blizzah give me a euro team that is well known that pays out of pocket to get to cpl besides... EYE...

Also tell me what teams only have a salary of 1-2K per year, try closer to 7k-12k. That isn't too bad, id say that qualifys as a normal job, 5-6 hours a day, pretty much your own boss.

Also, tell me what teams in america are only sponsored with gas and hotel... Plane tickets and hotels are a different story, what's this about gas and ahotel though? Examples?...

Also, the south american cs scene is going crazy right now, look at the Brazilians, Intel has flocked there, Chile is coming along, soon south america will become a "super-power" like Europe... it's not to far off.
