| The MPAA threatened to sue me but said that they would drop it if i stopped distributing it and deleted it off my computer. I stopped distributing it. No problems. Still there assholes though and i dont think they should be able to get your information from your ISP. As for if its stealing or not, it does not cost them anything and i have not seen any evidence linking an increase in downloading with a decrease in sales. |

What you said doesn't make any sense. You see, with P2P networks, the twelve year old girl IS the distributor. Kazaa and the like are often targets, but they only make the software to facilitate such stealing. they aren't, in fact, distributing the music, movies, etc. That is up to the individuals utilzaing the software. There isn't a central database in Kazaa'a possession holding all these files. they are traded from Person 2 Person, hence the p2p reference. If you believe that suc fines should be imposed on the distributors, anyone who has even traded one file online that happened to be copyrighted could be charged the 150k. On the same, but slightly different, subject, can one still be prosecuted for downloading copyrighted music if the download was never shared with anyone? Kazaa, among others, has the option to allow you to turn off uploads from your computer, thereby preventing the sharing of files. If you have constantly had this option on, preventing files from being downloaded from your computer, can you still be charging for "file-sharing"? I would think they would need evidence of such sharing in order to prosecute.
