I got cable finally. Here in S. New Mexico we are a little farther behind i know. i just got a question, if i turn on my computer and it comes to teh password screen, and i leave my computer on, is it still an open portal, as if ii put in the log in infor, and is it still subject to attacks? i have virus protection, and i have a firewall, but im just curious if my computer can be seen over the net?.

not the password for a screensaver, but when you turn it on and it comes up.

Yes you can be seen on the net once your computer boots up, so you still are subject to attacks, but not nessisarily all the attacks that are possible when you are logged in.

Man, the medias got everyone thinking people just sit around waiting for people to log onto their cable internet to "l337 h4x0r" them.

That just aint the case folks.

Personally, i dont worry one bit. I have cable, always on, always connected, never had one malicious threat on my computer that i didnt bring about myself by downloading sketchy files.

So i wouldnt sweat it too much man. Id say the chances of you getting messed with are pretty slim, why would someone go through the process of hacking someones personal computer, so they can see their pictures or what porn they have? It just doesnt make sense to me. I can see fearing viruses as i have seen first hand how they can destroy your system but fearing hackers is just a tad silly to me.

I agree on this one, even tho i have AOL. I know alot of people that have Cable and are fine, so i wouldnt worry about it. Toke up and explore the web worry free.
