Ok, recently I started having problems burning CD's from Windows media player 10. It will burn things I've downloaded from CD onto my computer, but won't let me burn any um....stolen....borrowed....DOWNLOADED music. It says I don't have the proper codecs installed, but I have it set to automatically download any needed codecs, and the music PLAYS just fine....the only time I have problems is when I attempt to burn anything I downloaded. Can anyone help me out here, without referring me to another program? I'm really used to Media Players layout, and don't want to take the time to learn another burning program....yes...i AM that lazy!

I've never heard of needing any codecs to burn a cd. Maybe try re-installing the software and see if that helps...

LOL....I thought the same thing. the error message claims I haven't listened to the tracks on my computer yet, and that a codec is missing. yet, they all play perfectly fine, just won't burn!!!

Ok...as a worst case scenario, can anyone recommed a good free burner? Anything besides realplayer.....I've burned CDs using it in the past, but I don't like it. Any other good ones out there that are easy and create decent results?

Have you tried downloading any of the codecs available?

Windows XP Codecs
Windows 98/ME/2K Codecs

Pick your OS and just download. Try that and see how it goes

A lot of people also have trouble using WMP10, if all else fails downgrade to WMP9 and you should have no problem.

Nero also had some plug-ins available, but I think they only work with WMP9 (at least that's the last I heard about it). You can try it though, click here to download it.

Thanks for your help! I think I will "downgrade" back to WMP9....between not being able to burn CD's, and some of my video files not playing correctly, its probably the best solution. to be honest, I only Dl'd 10 because I thought it would be better, but no such luck! Goes to show what happens when you jump on the latest=best bandwagon!

It could also be your burner, but whatever. I use WMP10 and like it alot, simply because of the new look and because it has the feature where it lets you minimize it into your system tray area

Well, after trying the nero codecs and the other codecs you suggested, everything seems to work just fine. thanks for the link.....my computer and I are now happy once again!!
