| Well, things could have been worse. I used the XPscrubber thing on that sticky there, and well.. I shouldn't have. It deleated a whole bunch of stuff, which I knew /could/ have happened but I figured I knew enough about computer to prevent that, but I didn't. So... Now my computer has the graphics of a windows 95, and its windows xp professional. Also, none of the shortcuts or icons on the Taskbar work. =/ I could be in so much shit. Blah, hopefully I can fix it, or you guys can help.. |

| My recommendation is to save any files you need (music, pictures, documents) and then do a clean install of Windows XP. It sounds like your registery is messed up and that would be more work than it is worth.

| Yes you could try booting from the last known good boot (system restore). |

| System restore is something I find to be a vestigial feature. It's harder to get rid of a lot of viruses with it active. A system restore might fix things, but I'm not counting on it, especially since it sounds like partly a video driver issue. Reinstalling XP would be a better idea, if possible. |

| First, I'd try finding out what type of graphics card you have and download the appropriate driver for it. Or it's even possible that the driver is still there, but you might just need to turn back up the resolution or color depth. Once you have an interface back that's familiar to you, the next problem will be a little easier to work with. |

| to do a fresh install just access the BIOS by pressing f10 or delete (usually) when the computer is very first turned on continue hitting these buttons until you either see a screen unfamiliar to you that lists various properties of your computer on the first page. Use the arrow buttons to navigate, don't change anything except the boot drive priority, make sure the CD is the first boot drive priority, then exit saving changes, and have the Windows XP CD in the drive. The computer will automatically start loading the windows cd before it loads windows, it will be in like 4 bit display, and look mighty primitive. The CD will load and it will direct you where to go, and what to do, it will take about an hour or so installing windows, and then you will have to re-install all your drivers and files. So for your motherboard and each of your peripherals, sound card, graphics card, USB, etc etc you will need to download the latest driver from the internet. But beware, your LAN Card might need a driver too, and if you don't have the disk. You are going to have to use a computer that has access to the internet and download the latest driver to a thumb/flash drive, but don't forget you might not have the disk for the USB driver! so you cannot download that info until the USB drive has a driver, so then you need to go back to the computer you were just at and recopy it to a CD to load into your computer, and then you'll will be finished with the technical part of your journey, from their install your other programs and such and try to get your life back together ya know, atleast thats what its like to me when I re-do my computer. |

| If the feature is enabled, it would correct the issue. Quote:
As far as viruses, there are somet hat need to have SysRestore turned off to completely remove them. However, once the virus is removed, it can be turned back on with no problems. To access system restore, go to Start > Run Type MSCONFIG and press ENTER. Click the button for "Launch System Restore.
