Default Free Music Editing Software

I'm an amature musician and I have a shitty mp3 player which can record sounds with a mic and input the recordings onto a computer. What I'm looking for is a simple free music editing software which will basically let me layer recordings and loop them and mabey some effects but that would just be extra. I have no experience with music editing so simple would be the key word. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the link, I downloaded the program and opened a recording but it was almost total static, so i messed around with the play rate and got to where I could kind of hear the recording but with alot of static (which I didn't hear when I played the recording using windows media player) and a wind like sound. So I was wondering if anyone knows what might be wrong, I'll keep messing around with it. Thanks

Dude, Audacity can load MP3s just fine. Did you install the LAME encoder, like it tells you to?

Yeah I installed the LAME encoder. I think it has something to do with what I'm using to record with or the speed. When it plays the MP3 at the default speed (44100 Hz) it just sounds like its being fastforwarded really fast and a 10 min recording will play through in 10 seconds, like I said earlier I can mess around with the speed to hear a heavily distorted and offtempo version of what was recorded (at around 2100 Hz), so I was wondering why it wouldn't play normaly on the default speed and if there was anyway I could get it to play normally on any speed. Sorry I know, kind of confusing and mabey its something extremley simple that I'm doing wrong but help would be appreciated.

DBpower AMP

Goldwave

Those are two more audio editing tools that may help out. I think that if either of them would help here, it'd be DBpower AMP, but give them both a shot. They do things that Audacity won't, but they are NOT a substitue for Audacity. You should have that program no matter what.

Any audio / Mp3 editing and recording software will be of use. Suggests to try your recordings using FlexiMusic Wave Editor. Software is easy to use, downloadable, free to use as trail version.
