This is a question for the computer / network geeks. I am a computer geeks my self but have not kept up with wireless networking as much as I should have. Anyways here is the situation. I am wanting to play xbox 360 system link over a wireless network between my apartment and my neighbors apartment who is on a second level and I am on first, he is also about 120-140 feet away from my place. I am not sure if a standard wireless card would work, I was thinking we would need something with extended range, I am also not sure is a standard 360 wireless adapter would do the job or if I am going to need to hook the 360 up to a router and then bridge that with my neighbors router? Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

| Have you tried a standard wireless adapter? It would be worth a shot, at least. You're going to need a wireless adapter anyway, whether you make a more powerful antenna or whatever. Frankly, I think it would be easier to run a long ethernet cable out a window or drill through the floor/ceiling and connect the two XBoxes that way.

You could always go with 802.11n if you need to. Then again wireless-n is probably too new for xbox unless you can swap out NICs. I'm a master of positioning wireless antennas (try being addicted to CS and having your roomate be an irresponsible turd - thank god I moved out of there - and quit paying for the internet without telling anyone...) and I'm pretty sure that you should be able to get the network working. You'll probably connect at like 5 mbps but it's better than nothing I guess. I usually find that 90 degree kink in the joint of the antenna in combination of a 45 degree angle (when dealing with verticle variation) towards the router works best. In other words you want to make the most lateral surface area on the antenna available as possible. Obviously it will be different for everyone but that's the formula I try first when "war driving" or whatever the term is.

inner, The only problem is that you'll be sharing your connection with the whole block with 802.11n. I like getting range with my wireless, but to me, n is not safe. ![]()

Thanks guys. The neighbor i am trying to connect with lives across a small walkway from me, so wires will not work. I am going to look into the wireless N, this would be a network only for the xbox 360s to connect, we don't need internet (or want it, my xbox 360 is modded). Thanks for the suggestions.
