Default Need help choosing a new computer

Soon I am going to be purchasing a new computer. This computer would be for gaming. I don't want to go over $700 unless it is a really good deal then maybe $900. I was looking at computers from cyberpowerpc and ibuypower. I've heard nothing but good things about these companies. So please, help me make a good decision that I won't regret.

Processor Type PentD820 Dual Core
RAM Memory 1024MB
Hard Disk Capacity 160GB
CD/DVD Drive Type DVDRW

I took your advice and customized this from ibuypwer.com...
Raidmax A8 Gaming Tower Case w/420W Power Supply
Intel Pentium D 940 [3.2 GHz]
** iBUYPOWER Recommended ** [DDR2] ECS 945P-A i945P Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, USB 2.0 PCI-E MB
1024MB DDR2-667 PC5300 Memory Cosair Value Select (512MB x2)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300LE 256MB Turbocache w/ DVI + TV Out Video
250 GB Hard Drive
Windows Media Center Edition w/ Free Upgrade for Windows Vista Home Premium
...all for $735. Do you think I should change anything with this setup? I really don't know much about computers I just like to play games on them.

suprised that no one has suggested you go with an AMD Processor.

But, you can build a decent machine for cheaper than you could buy it pre-built from some company... and you get it how you want it. so yea. www.newegg.com ftw

Lose Windows Media Center. It will do nothing to enhance your gaming and should cost less than XP Pro.

A bigger hard drive is always a good thing.

I got Windoews Media cuz of the free upgrade to Windows Vista. And I was looking at processors and do you think I should go with Pentium D 3.4 GHz or Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz

Core 2 is better than everything. Clocks speeds are really at their "peak" and architecture is where we'll see improvements in processing power.

The Core 2 Duo/Extreme processors take strings of 1's and 0's and breaks them in half so you can process the same amount of commands twice as fast. A core 2 Duo at 2.13 Ghz is like 4.5 Ghz in another processor.

I assume the Core 2 works in 32-bit or 64-bit mode. In 32-bit mode, a "string" will come to the processor that consists of 32 bits. A bit is a 1 or a 0. So this string of 32 bits is split from "11111111111111110000000000000000" into "1111111111111111" and "0000000000000" and the processor will take both of the new strings and process them at the same time, effectively doubling the processing power. Apply the same theory to 64-bit processing.

The Core 2 is the best processor for gaming without a doubt but if you're looking for a bargain then go with AMD. They've slashed their prices to the extreme just to attempt to keep up with Intel since they released the Core 2. AMD makes great chips for the price but if you want the latest and greatest then go with Intel.

And I'd be tempted to wait for the Nvidia 8800 GTX if I were you after I saw the benchmarks yesterday.
