| Soon I am going to be purchasing a new computer. This computer would be for gaming. I don't want to go over $700 unless it is a really good deal then maybe $900. I was looking at computers from cyberpowerpc and ibuypower. I've heard nothing but good things about these companies. So please, help me make a good decision that I won't regret. |

| suprised that no one has suggested you go with an AMD Processor. But, you can build a decent machine for cheaper than you could buy it pre-built from some company... and you get it how you want it. so yea. www.newegg.com ftw |

The Core 2 Duo/Extreme processors take strings of 1's and 0's and breaks them in half so you can process the same amount of commands twice as fast. A core 2 Duo at 2.13 Ghz is like 4.5 Ghz in another processor. I assume the Core 2 works in 32-bit or 64-bit mode. In 32-bit mode, a "string" will come to the processor that consists of 32 bits. A bit is a 1 or a 0. So this string of 32 bits is split from "11111111111111110000000000000000" into "1111111111111111" and "0000000000000" and the processor will take both of the new strings and process them at the same time, effectively doubling the processing power. Apply the same theory to 64-bit processing. The Core 2 is the best processor for gaming without a doubt but if you're looking for a bargain then go with AMD. They've slashed their prices to the extreme just to attempt to keep up with Intel since they released the Core 2. AMD makes great chips for the price but if you want the latest and greatest then go with Intel. And I'd be tempted to wait for the Nvidia 8800 GTX if I were you after I saw the benchmarks yesterday. | |
