Ok so I'm planning on buying a new computer with my christmas money and some money I have saved up. So if I buy one now with a good graphics card can I download the driver for DirectX 10 when it comes out? Or do I have to wait for it to come out and then buy a computer with DirectX 10 already on it? I hope this makes sense if it doesn't tell me and I'll try to explain it more.

DX 10 isn't backwards compatible, you will need a new graphics card when they are available. It's because they redid the code from scratch. I would buy a wicked cheap card for this computer, then buy a dx 10 card when you can. Or just wait. Can't wait till I can get one, the graphics will be so sweet.

sorry for the bad news, but you'll need a new Direct X 10 graphics card, and they're not out yet (at least I don't think so).

DirectX 10 will only work on new graphics cards. If you absolutely have to have a DirectX 10 card as soon as possible I would get the Nvidia Geforce 8800GTX. Based on the fact that that card won't be outdated in a year or two. But it is $600 so yeah... Otherwise you could get the 8800GTS but don't be surprised when in two years your card just can't handle the games like it used to. But it's $400 and you could have next-next gen graphics in comparison to gaming systems...it's just not as much bang for your buck.

I was wrong, nvida has two dx 10 cards out, the GeForce 8800 GTX, and the GeForce 8800 GTS(cheaper version). ATI does not have any out at the moment. The cards are beasts, I would love to have one, but yea, those cards will run dx 10. dx 10 will only work with vista though, not xp. This card will work just fine on xp, just running dx 9c. This is a good article for dx 10, this for the gtx, and this for the gts.

OK, I'm resurrecting this thread and taking it in a different direction. I just ran across this article at Destructoid. It's basically just some screenshots of the new Conan game coming out. It'll obviously be based on DirectX 10, but check out those fuggin screen shots!!! I think MS is a bunch of dicks for making DX10 Vista exclusive, but every single screenshot of every single DX10 game I've seen has left me drooling. Besides this and Crysis, are there any other DX10 games that have any teaser shots? And just let me take another jab at the PS and XBOX fanboys. Check out these screenshots from Turok. While it does look like a pretty good game graphically, look closely and you'll see that your next-gen console really does suck, after all. ![]()

Conan looks like a revamped Oblivion. Turok looks like it has some good texturing, but the lighting is terrible. Yeah, the 8800GTX and GTS are the only DX10 cards out there are the moment. ATI's R600 chip lineup is supposed to be released any day now, since Vista actually hit the retail shelves over the past week.

I think those new ATI chips are going to take a little over a month to come out. SmasheR, You know you can buy XBOX and PS controllers for PC, right? If you just play games, I guess consoles are allright, but gamer's have PCs. Gamer's aren't too much worried about the cost of new items because we forego food and heat for a few days to save up. ![]()
