| OK, I stupidly got my lens REALLY dirty ripping some old, dirty CDs I wanted to attempt to salvage. My drive still works, but its INCREDIBLY slow, and distorts the music it plays (although what it rips turns out fine). I boiught a lens cleaner, and ran the cleaning cycle multiple times, but the problem remain. Do I need to buy a new drive, or can this one be salvaged? I wouldn't mind getting a new drive, but this isn't very old at all......I believe I bought it about 4 months ago.....

| Those lens cleaner's are for shit. I've never had one help. If you're having problems with the drive, replace it. CD-DVD drives are made so cheaply these days that you're better off getting a new one. Better make it two. Four more months is only four more months away. |

| some rubbing alcohol on a cue tip cleans the lens well, just make sure you only use a little, so it doesn't get all over the place. If your just gonna get a new one, it's worth a try. I fixed one cd player that way. |

| I'd look for a new drive on eBay. I bought a DL DVD/CD burner a while ago that I haven't installed because I don't have any DL DVDs. It was only like 10-20$, not bad at all.

| There are guide online that can walk you through the process of taking apart your unit and cleaning it. Use a q-tip with rubbing alcohol. This might not fix your problem, but its worth a shot, worst case scenario you still need a new cd drive. Hope that helps, Good Apollo |

| If you get a new one, those ones with lightscribe are really cool. My laptop burns cd's pretty fast, so all my friends in bands pay me to make 20 or 30 copies of cd's(just do it while I'm doing homework). But It would be cool if I could use that instead of a sharpie to lable them. For those who don't know, lightscribe uses the laser to burn images or words onto the front of special discs, not sure how expensive it is though. But yea, try the rubbing alcohol, if it doesn't work just buy a new one. |

| can you return your 4 month and say it broke and get a new one under warranty? or sell it as broke on ebay? or you could get a second internal disk drive and use your old one just to burn, or you could get an external and use that. peace |

| OK, I gotta say something. I'll make it as nice as I can without going overboard. I won't flame anyone either. Ready? ... .... ..... ...... ....... Don't use rubbing alcohol. |

| I appriecate the self control with not flaming, could you explain why however, I don't want to be giving bad advise, and I did this on a cd player and it worked. That was just a walkman though so again, please explain. |
