It really wouldn't be worth it on a Celeron D, I don't think. 512KB L2, 533MHz FSB, no HT.. You'd want to upgrade your CPU and motherboard first, OCing that chip wouldn't make a big enough difference. (Except you may want to find a good walkthrough or something on overclocking that chip.. Because if you don't know how to do it, I wouldn't recommend learning to do it on a brand new $300-400 CPU+Mobo) [edit] and if you've got an Intel motherboard, don't try it, cuz I'm pretty sure you can't do it.

If you have to ask this question and you're using a Celeron D, the answer is most likely "no" as to if you can overclock the processor. I say this because the consumer with marginal interest would find that Celeron are least-cost, but also least-productive, in flat performance as well as overclocking. The majority of Celerons are also provided through vendors who disable overclocking in the BIOS

Yeah, just upgrade your CPU/Mobo... I was strapped for cash when I upgraded mine a while back, but I got a pretty nice combo... Gigabyte 8i945G-Pro motherboard: $100-120 on eBay or Froogle. Intel Pentium 4 630, 3.0GHz 64bit HT: $90 on eBay... you could probably get one a little faster now too. CPU prices are dropping like crazy, except for the brand new ones. And unless you're a total PC enthusiast, no need for that. It's a nice little poor man's setup. Just a couple suggestions.. I had to upgrade both of these a few months back for as cheap as I could and that's about the nicest setup I could find for less than $200. That motherboard also has a user-friendly overclocking feature if you really want to OC without damaging your parts. [Edit] Since I like looking for computer parts... eBay item #150079899201 is an Intel Core 2 Duo 6400 @ 2.13GHz, 2MB L2 Cache and 1066MHz FSB for $175. Reading up on it, sounds like this is a very good CPU for overclocking. Easily overclocks, stable, to 2.8-9GHz (the same speed as the 6800, an $800 CPU). Of course that's with an additional $150-200 for the motherboard. About $350-400 total.

The Pentium D 805 would be a better idea if you wanted to crunch only $90. Much better overclocker. And the Core 2 Duos are amazing overclockers. With the right chipset, an E6300 could go from 1.8 GHz to 3.6 GHz. But I'd be hesitant to recommend updates when we don't even know the type of RAM being used, either.

I might just get one of those 805s myself. Good looking chip for $90, and I hate dumping hundreds into a computer. Never understood how people can pay several hundred dollars for a CPU that has just a little bit more than one you can pick up easily for under 100.
