| I got word today that I'm no longer going to have verizon dsl and I wanted to switch. Can anyone give me the name of any cheap (preferably 20 bucks or less) internet providers? I don't want dial-up but I don't need high speed internet 2.0 mbps or around there is ok. |

| It all depends on where you live. If you don't need high speed just go with dial-up for around 10 bucks a month. If you want something faster than dial-up you'll have to pay at least $35-40 a month. |

| Comcast is becoming the next AOL. They're in many, many places. But finding broadband for <$20 is going to be extremely challenging. 2.0 Mbps is high-speed, no other way to break it down. |

| 2 mbps isn't that fast if we are talking megebits per second not megabytes per second. I have comcast high speed and I average 5.5 mbps when I run speedtest. Thats wifi from the basement too. DSL gets 2 mbps I think. But it's either dial up, DSL, or cable. Is there not going to be any DSL in your area anymore, because cable is pretty expensive. Also I have seen ads for accelerated dial up, but I don't know if it works or is just marketing. |

| I pay right around 30 bucks (not sure EXACTLY, as its bundled with my tv services) for an 8mbps connection, from a local (regional, i guess) provider. Having gotten used to it, anything slower annoys the shit outta me

| As far as broadband providers, you're going to be looking at the local phone company or companies, the cable provider, and possibly other options. Cable service will run you about $40-50/month. DSL from your phone company will run $25-100/month, depending on what features and plans your local phoco offers. Other providers will be all over the board. Check out http://www.broadbandreports.com to see what's available in your area. Quote:
Funny. I was in the beta-test market for Time-Warner's Roadrunner. Great service, BTW. Well, I moved to California and we had Excite@Home... Then it became AT&T Broadband. Then it became Comcast... So I move to Dallas , keeping my Comcast. What do they do? Switch to Time-Warner. So now I have Roadrunner again! ![]()
